Hotel at a Glance: The Mercantile Hotel

From this Warehouse District hotel, you can get to a lot of popular New Orleans attractions on foot. Head about 19 minutes northeast to eat Café Du Monde's famous beignets along the riverfront, or stroll 10 minutes southwest to visit the National WWII Museum. Walk about 15 minutes north of the hotel to sip milk punch and hand grenades in the French Quarter.

  • Take a ride on the nearby Riverfront streetcar line to shop for artwork in Jackson Square and eat Creole food at the French Market.
  • Enjoy the view of the skyline from your suite's separate bedroom and living area.
  • In your suite: Aveda bath products and a Keurig coffee maker, along with a microwave and a mini-fridge
  • Historical charm: The exposed brick you'll see is a remnant of the building's time as the Henderson Sugar Refinery, which dates back to the late 1800s.

New Orleans’ Central Business District: Vibrant Downtown with Lots of Historic Character

In the 1960s, many of the historic neighborhoods of the Central Business District were torn down to make way for high-rise office buildings and parking lots. Had a preservationist group not intervened, the neighborhood would have looked a lot different today. They not only salvaged many of the neighborhood’s 19th- and 20th- century buildings, but also much of its character. Today, you can see some of this character at historic Lafayette Square, which hosts free concerts and movies.

If you’re in the mood for some shopping, head to The Shops at Canal Place, a massive indoor shopping complex along the Mississippi River. From here, you can easily walk to Harrah’s, the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, and other attractions along the riverfront or take the St. Charles streetcar past antebellum mansions and southern live oaks en route to the Garden District to the south.

We got a king suite, which was very spacious. The bedroom has its own door and is separate from the sitting area/kitchen that has couches, a Keurig coffee maker, mini fridge, and microwave. The complimentary breakfast in the morning has a lot of options, so don’t miss it! We were able to walk to the French Quarter, which was nice. Parking is valet only. The staff was friendly. Would stay again!

Hidden gem near the Convention Center What a wonderful hidden gem I found for my recent business trip!! Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet and in a great location near French Quarter. Chose this hotel for a meeting at the Convention Center because it stuck out to me as smaller and more interesting/unique than the hotels recommended by my business group. The price was similar if not a little lower. The location worked well as near French Quarter and within a reasonable walk to the trolley line and on the opposite direction, the convention center. It's an older building though the suites are nicely appointed and comfortable. The record player in my suite was fun for jazz records, and the little fridge perfect for healthy snacks. Would go there again in a heartbeat! Not for those looking for a huge hotel with busy bar/restaurant and lots of activity! It's for those of us who enjoy a more local, quiet, and place away from the bustle of the Convention Center and French Quarter!
