San Francisco’s South of Market Neighborhood: Museums, Gardens, and Tech Headquarters

Just north of the popular Mission District, South of Market (or SoMa, as it’s sometimes called) is a vast neighborhood that contains many of the city’s best museums, including the Asian Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Yerba Buena Gardens displays a number of outdoor art pieces and a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, which sits behind a 50-foot-high waterfall. The public gardens, a butterfly garden among them, cover two city blocks.

Quite a few Silicon Valley companies have had headquarters in South of Market, including Twitter, Yelp, and Wired. The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is one of Apple Inc.’s favorite venues for unveiling new products—Steve Jobs introduced the iPod and the iPad to the world from its stage.

Great place to rest between outings. Small room but did its job in a good central part of town. ⁸

I won't stay here again. I chose this hotel to stay at while attending a conference at the Moscone center based on existing reviews saying it is a nice place. However, I was extremely disappointed in the hotel and will not stay there on future visits. The room was very tiny. It was not worth the price. On early arrival I was told there were rooms available but it would be an additional charge to check in 2 hours early. I decided to come back later and when I went up to my room, it was not ready due to a maintenance issue that was being worked on and wasn't conveyed to the front desk. They assigned me a different room. There was no closet, just a rod placed out in the open and a little too close to the sink. It did not hold more than a couple of items. Nor were there drawers for your clothes, save for one little one under the bed. The sink was a tiny corner sink in the open (outside the bathroom) with a corner mirror hung over it such that it was nearly impossible to lean your head over the sink to spit out toothpaste with out bending your head low and under the mirror. It was very awkward. There was no room coffee, and coffee service in the lobby didn't start until 6:30am, which was too late for an east coast early riser who was up way earlier and ready to start my day. No tissues, refrigerator, microwave in the room. One small elevator for 6 floors. Plan to wait or walk down the stairs sometimes. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and helpful.

A mixed bag As a preface, I stayed while there was a home conference going on in town. I booked last minute and the Mosser was the only place available less than $1,000 a night. The rate here this night was about $600. The good: A super attentive and friendly staff who seemed to genuinely care. Great location. The bad: No real amenities. There is no restaurant (though the site says there is). Tiny room. Heater was a radiator that made a lot of noise but didn’t really change the room temp. The chair was like a middle school desk with a top that slid and was threadbare and dusty. The bathroom was also tiny. The ugly: At least I had a bathroom. Turns out the original room I booked (my bad for not reading carefully I’m sure) had a single (single meaning not 1 but single width) bed and shared bathroom at the end of the hall. But the shower in my bathroom had a marginally clogged drain so I enjoyed water past my ankles as I showered. Bottom line: the staff was amazing - any hotel would be proud to have them. But if my choice in the future was to do an incredibly important meeting over the phone or stay here at 1/3 of what I paid…I’d make damn sure I had a good phone. But I’m probably not the target audience.

Our stay at the Mosser Found the Hotel to be adequate for our stay, plenty of coffee in the morning could do with a bit more attention to detail to take it to the next level. Staff pleasant and helpful. only downside no housekeeping during our 5 night stay, although fresh towels ect were only an ask away. as i have already said wouldn't take much effort to take this Hotel to the next level.
