Lincoln, New Hampshire: New England Town amid White Mountains and Forests

Formerly a mill town, Lincoln is now home to a modest collection of roadside diners and antique shops. But many visitors are drawn to Lincoln for its proximity to the White Mountains. Loon Mountain, the closest peak, looms 3,050 feet above town. The mountain is best known for its ski slopes—there are 61 trails on 370 skiable acres.

Just northeast of town lies Franconia Notch State Park, home to the former site of the Old Man of the Mountain, a rock formation that remains New Hampshire’s state emblem despite having collapsed in 2003. Photogenic nature scenes can be found at almost every turn here. Birch trees jut out of cliffs and thick mats of moss sprawl over giant boulders.

White mountain paradise Fantastic! We have been going to Loon Mountain Club since 1998 when we were married at the small waterfall behind the resort. Usually right after labor day. The setting, the staff, the food, all excellent. Take the gondola for a fantastic panorama of the surrounding mountains or lounge by the pool if you're there during the warmer months. Located near several popular white mountain attractions, it really is a fantastic place to stay!

Group Tour Stay at the Mountain Club. Very Nice Hotel. Staff was so very pleased to have us stay with them. We were surprised that our room was more of a timeshare accommodation with a full kitchen. Two murphy beds and lots of space. Stayed two nights on a group tour of the White Mountains.

Vouchers are sketchy but decent rooms This hotel has a lot of different room styles to choose from. We got a suite style room, but it was oddly laid out. It was actually two rooms joined together. It had an outer door that led into a small hallway. Each side of the hallway had another door. Both of these doors had locks. On one side was a king bed room with a patio and a bathroom. The other side had a kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and two murphy beds (one was queen size, the other was double bed size). Our kids slept in the murphy beds, but unfortunately had access to a kitchen and the ability to lock us out of the room and be completely unsupervised. That is not optimal and was not disclosed upon booking. We were given vouchers for breakfasts and a $50 spa voucher. We were told that kids eat free. However, when arriving at the restaurant in the morning we found out that kids do not eat free, and you can only use the voucher if you charge the meal to your room. Also at dinner kids again do not eat free, must eat from a dinner buffet in another room, while parents order off of a menu and everything must be charged to the room. We found the whole thing to be a bit of a scam, and chose to eat elsewhere. The parking was odd with multiple levels and it was challenging to find a spot that was accessible for the elevator. Instructions for the way to get into the parking for one of the levels wasn't given.
