Lincoln, New Hampshire: New England Town amid White Mountains and Forests

Formerly a mill town, Lincoln is now home to a modest collection of roadside diners and antique shops. But many visitors are drawn to Lincoln for its proximity to the White Mountains. Loon Mountain, the closest peak, looms 3,050 feet above town. The mountain is best known for its ski slopes—there are 61 trails on 370 skiable acres.

Just northeast of town lies Franconia Notch State Park, home to the former site of the Old Man of the Mountain, a rock formation that remains New Hampshire’s state emblem despite having collapsed in 2003. Photogenic nature scenes can be found at almost every turn here. Birch trees jut out of cliffs and thick mats of moss sprawl over giant boulders.

Bedbugs! Bedbugs! I stayed for a weekend and woke up eaten alive by bedbugs. They claim I am mistaken and it wasn’t bedbugs, but the rust color on the mattress and the unexplainable bites isolated to the days I was there l say otherwise. See photos. No one will acknowledge they messed up, and I want to make sure no one else ends up like this.

Great Family Getaway & Can't Wait to Go Back to Loon Spent 2 nights at the Mountain Club at Loon & 2 Full Days Skiing on the Fabulously Groomed Trails. Every trail had amazing coverage from the many Snow falls this winter. The 8 person covered lift moved the lines quickly & it was so Sunny and 30 that we left the cover up. We had 2 complimentary Adult Buffet Breakfasts that had the Usual Eggs , Bacon ,Sausage, Quiche & Much more that was very Good & the grand kids under 12 Ate for FREE! The Only drawback was the Indoor Pool could be a bit warmer as most of the Women stayed out. The Outdoor Hot Tub was Very Warm(felt good to me) but many others got out quicker than usual and their dripping water froze quickly(Quite a Hazard). I extended our checkout until 3 ( at $15/Hour after 11) so we could get another pretty Full Day of Fantastic Skiing in so the Non Skiers were comfortable. I forgot my Ski Pants over an adjoining door in the Ski lockers & did not realize it until my return home. I called the front desk & they quickly found them & shipped them to me FREE! Overall a GREAT Family Experience that I Highly Recommend.

Be aware Ski in/out on a mountain that does not have much of this at all. This is the good point. The bad is a long list…old facilities, lack of staff, poor hvac (hot or cold no middle), hot tub for 4 in a hotel with hundreds, meals get worse each year…I feel for them, as owners would have to get hit with an assessment to improve and I would guess lot of older owners who think is fine and don’t go to other mountains and would never approve.
