Interesting architecture, friendly staff What a truly interesting hotel set right in the middle of town and near the university. The building looks vintage 1800's though was, oddly enough, built during the last twenty years. The architecture gives it a lot of characters. Front desk staff was a little lukewarm but bar staff was very friendly. Upgrade was appreciated. I would certainly stay again.

A cold, hard place. It had been 14 years since I had been to Lawrence and I was looking forward to staying at the Oread. I arrived late. The front desk staff was very friendly and quickly checked me in. I noticed the the lobby and bar area seemed vey hard and cold. As I walked to the elevator I saw the stone walls in the hallways and again they seemed cold and hard. I rode up the elevator and upon arriving at my floor I started walking to my room and felt the stone walls were hard and cold. I entered my room which seemed cold and sterile. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable but the room was not inviting. I closed the wooden panels that served the purpose of room darkening shades. I turned out the lights and fell asleep. When I got up I had the same feeling about the property, hard and cold. Almost every surface was dark tile or stone. There were no drapes, curtains, carpet, tapestries or pictures to warm the place up. I left early in the morning and the desk attendant who checked me out was very professional. The price for the room was very reasonable. I guess I would say that my anticipation of getting to stay at the hotel exceeded the event. The staff was very polite and the place was clean but nothing made me want to come back to spend another evening.

Good location I enjoyed my stay at the Oread but for the price I expected a bit more. It was conveniently located on the campus of the University of Kansas. We were not familiar with the campus so asked the front desk staff several times for help with suggestions for restaurants etc and really did not get much response. Also they really didn’t let us know what was going on in the hotel at all. Did not know there was live music on the roof top or that there was a roof top?? Did not know there was a cookie store in the lower level?? Sort of came upon that on our own. Very grateful to the restaurant staff who were very helpful and gracious. Rooms were large and spacious but lacking decor and needed some updating. I will say the housekeeping staff was spot on every day refilling all supplies which does not happen much at most places anymore. And the gift store in the main lobby was closed the entire time we were there for some reason.

Decent hotel but terrible customer service. I give this hotel three stars only because of the lack of customer service. I visited here at the beginning of April for a work trip and when I returned home, I noticed a larger than usual charge from the hotel. I called them to inquire about it and they told me I had purchased chips and a beer. I never purchased a beer, I don’t drink. I told them that this was a mistake on their end and they promised they would handle it through a refund. My company noticed they never reimburse me to this day, so I called them which led to me trying to get a hold of them for 20 to 30 minutes. Nobody would answer any of their phones. It’s literally 3 PM there. I don’t understand what else they would be doing? I finally got a hold of the restaurant who was able to connect me to the front desk, who connected me to accounting where the woman immediately hung up on me. I tried calling back got sent to her voicemail. Tried calling again and she finally answered. I told her that I had not been reimbursed and she claimed that I had. I had to get her to look it up so she could check her files to see if in fact I had been reimbursed. I am still waiting to get a callback from her, but this is ridiculous.

No Luxury Here. There was nothing luxurious about this hotel. We were visiting Lawrence for a couple of days and my partner wanted to stay at The Oread. There was no bell staff- we had to deal with the luggage on our own. The floor had been overpolished such that every time we got on a bed, it skated across the slick floor, and I nearly fell. The shower curtain was inadequate, and it leaked into the bedroom each time we used the shower. The light in the room was awful- there was not enough to read by, or to work if you needed to do that. The window was covered with a frosted vinyl sheet for most of it, so very little natural light on top of ill-chosen lamps. The food was mediocre to bad. After seeing the breakfast "buffet" we went out. The worst and most ridiculous thing- and someone could have been severely hurt- I needed to use the bathroom after eating in the restaurant. The bathrooms are all the way at the back, next to some meeting space. The lights in there were LED and appeared to be on sensors. I have a bad knee, and needed to use the handicapped stall that day for the grab bars. I went in to use it, and shortly after, the lights went dark. The stall is too deep for the sensors to reach, so i had to carefully walk along the stall til I found the door, and then towards the door. The lights finally came back on when I reached the sinks. Just ridiculous.
