La Jolla, California: Upscale Coastal Community Close to San Diego

La Jolla sits on the northern outskirts of San Diego, along a stretch of hilly coastal terrain marked by sprawling mansions and dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific. Upscale boutiques, galleries, and gourmet restaurants are clustered in the Village, La Jolla’s downtown business district. The city is also home to UC-San Diego and its acclaimed theater-in-residence, the La Jolla Playhouse. Founded in 1947 by actor Gregory Peck, the award-winning theater stages a wide range of plays and musicals throughout the year.

But it’s Mother Nature who steals the show here. Hop in a kayak to see the 6,000 acres of rocky reefs and kelp forests at the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park. You can explore sea caves and catch glimpses of marine life, including sea lions and orange garibaldi. The park’s La Jolla Cove attracts divers and snorkelers, who plunge into the calm, clear waters to get up close to the living coral. After a dive, it’s nice to kick back and soak in the sun on the white-sand beachfront known as La Jolla Shores.

FALSE ADVERTISING! BEWARE! BEWARE! Be very clear on the room type and the building you are booking. The hotel has 3 parts (more like 3 very different hotels) next to each other. Most of the pictures online are from the section called The Pines which is new and very nice. However, that's just a small building with limited number of rooms. The other 2 "sections" have a very different, old and smelly feel. We paid $475 and expected something similar to what we saw on line. We ended up in a building a block away which is literally a nasty motel. The exterior of the building is brown, old and depressing. The "suite" was big but unusable. The one small couch and a chair were so nasty that we were afraid to sit on it. the stove looked like an antic ( not that we were going to use it but still), the fridge made 3 ice cubes for the 20 hrs that we were there. The airconditionner was a floor unit that was so loud that I woke up when it kicked in in the middle of the night think that a storm was raging outside. You have to question the quality of house keeping when they don't even leave toilette paperin the room- none!!! FALSE ADVERTISING! VERY DISAPPOINTED. We waisted out first day of a 4 day girls trip trying to find another place to stay.

Don’t waste your time for a special occacion We stayed here for our wedding day in the most expensive penthouse suite and did not feel welcomed at ALL by the staff members. No congrats, no thank you card, nothing complimentary. The view from our suite was great, but that was the only memorable thing. Some items were also missing from our room like the clothes iron which was heavily needed for our wedding day which was extremely inconvenient. For the price we paid, the stay was not good value for the money. We will not be returning.
