Redstone, Colorado: Historic Swiss-Style Town in the Rockies

Redstone is about 200 miles west of Denver, but the place looks like it was airlifted in from the Swiss Alps—in fact, the buildings are modeled after European mountain chalets. The entire town was the brainchild of entrepreneur John Cleveland Osgood, who built it in order to house the employees of his coal-mining operation. While he lived there, his tudor-style Redstone Castle hosted guests such as John D. Rockefeller, John Pierpont Morgan, and Teddy Roosevelt; today, you can take a public guided tour of the house or dine like a Rockefeller yourself at the historic Redstone Inn, which, like the rest of the town, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Since it’s surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, Redstone has no shortage of outdoor activities. The 2.3-million-acre White River National Forest is crisscrossed with trails for hiking and snowmobiling, and Avalanche Ranch boasts natural hot springs about 5 miles north of town.

One star hotel This property on the inside is very tired. Rooms were very tired and very dingy and dark! Bathrooms were old and bathtub was rust stained. Linens were old and dingy and mattresses were soft and old. So many retirees checking in who must have been so disappointed. We did not stay. Town of Redstone is darling! River is beautiful. Hotel needs a lot of updating.

OPEN THE GATES RESTONE INN!!!! How SAD to be greeted with KEEP OUT SIGNS as you enter the grounds of The Redstone Inn!!! We wanted to see the place in person before booking a spring family reunion at this historic Colorado retreat and were forced to turn around at the gates. You owners need to learn HOW TO SHARE this Colorado icon and be a lot more welcoming to the people who love Colorado and its history! We won't be back and won't be referring people to you!

Wonderful Retreat In an Old Hotel A magnificent old hotel that has charm and elegance! My wife and I stayed the night and enjoyed the hospitality, ambiance, staff, food and beverages. Our room was quiet with all the charm of an old hotel. The location is perfect for outdoor recreational activities and the history surrounding the hotel and area is quite interesting. We will gladly stay there again.
