Daniels, West Virginia: Outdoor Recreation in the Appalachian Mountains

One of the most popular activities in this stretch of West Virginia is whitewater rafting along the New River. On guided rafting expeditions, paddlers navigate treacherous Class III, IV, and V rapids and pass through the New River Gorge, nicknamed the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Rafters also glide beneath the world’s second-longest single span arch. Grandview State Park offers aerial views of the meandering waterway, surrounded by velvety green rolling hills. Abundant hiking trails with breathtaking photo ops await just minutes away in the New River Gorge National Park.

In nearby Beckley, you can learn more about the area’s longstanding coal mining history at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum. Here, visitors can ride a train through the darkened tunnels of a vintage coal mine, while veteran miners deliver a guided tour. A historical village outside the museum recreates what life was like at a coal camp in the early 20th century.

The resort was clean and well-staffed. The rooms were nicely appointed. My family loved all of the amenities, including archery, bowling, arcade, basketball court, fitness center, an indoor lap pool, laser tag, and the escape room. The breakfast buffet was a nice surprise, and we always had everything we needed. 10/10...would definitely book here again 😊

Not worth the stay Was so excited to come here, Beautiful area. That was it for my joy. Definitely Not resort quality, more like a larger version of Motel 6. Hampton Inn is nicer. This hotel has so much potential. We stayed in main hotel, it is very worn and badly needs cleaned and updated. Housekeeping staff is friendly, nice and do a great job with what they have. We had breakfast which was self serve buffet. Staff in there could care less if people are there or not. Offered no welcome or assistance in any way. Food is terrible, cold (powdered???) eggs, dried out pastries, fresh cut fruit was not fresh. Coffee was good and hot. Also Selling gifts in the hallway made this place seem cheesy. There is a small room with basic necessities - toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc. SUPER Cheaply made items selling for Designer prices. Not worth the price.

My sister and I had a very nice stay. Beautiful area. Nice clean room. Breakfast buffet awesome. Shuttle bus to all the locations on the grounds was so useful and appreciated. We drove into Beckley WV and did all of our black Friday shopping which is about 20 minutes from the resort.

Glade Srings of Wild Wonderful West Virginia Beautiful property. Perfect conference venue. Patient, friendly, responsive, kind staff. Food at conference luncheon and dinner (which we had served buffet style) was plentiful and DELICIOUS. I enjoyed two dinners at the Bunkers Sports Bar. Good varied menu. Delicious food. Responsive servers. Great time. Lovely spacious guest room. Planning to return to Glade Springs next year.
