Cape Cod, Massachusetts: Historic Towns and Miles of Protected Beaches

In the late 19th century, Cape Cod blossomed into a summer vacation destination as visitors swapped crowded coastal cities for the sandy shores of eastern Massachusetts. Today, the arm-shaped peninsula, located 60 miles south of Boston, encompasses 15 idyllic towns, rolling dunes, and 300 miles of sandy shoreline—and it’s still the place where many East Coasters choose to spend their leisurely summer days. Popular attractions include fresh-seafood restaurants, quaint stores, and bicycle trails, such as the 11-mile Shining Sea Bikeway that wends from North Falmouth to Woods Hole.

On the uppermost tip of the Cape, the free-spirited art colony of Provincetown attracts visitors year-round. This is one of the best places to head for a vibrant nightlife scene—there are cabarets, bars, and lounges aplenty. Pop into the Provincetown Art Association and Museum to check out local artwork, both historical and contemporary.

Little touches can make such a big difference My husband and I recently spent a night at The Villages, at Ocean Edge - as we do every year as we spend Thanksgiving with friend in Brewster. As always we were warmly welcomed at check-in; and when we entered our unit there was a bottle of wine with 2 glasses - adding even more warmth to the welcome. The unit itself was spotless, quiet and equipped with everything we could want. At check-out, we were presented with two bags of freshly made cookies for the drive home. We're already looking forward to our next stay and hope to return in the fall for a long-weekend of bike-riding. A great choice at any time of year.

Great Escape This was our third trip to Ocean Edge - we enjoy visiting in the Fall. Everyone we met at this resort was very friendly and true hospitality experts. On my walks in the morning, the grounds keepers would acknowledge me and say hello. We enjoyed going to the pub and listening to live music - Derek was behind the bar the evening we were there, and he was exceptional - he made great drinks and struck up a friendly conversation with everyone. It’s a happy and relaxing place. Great place to escape to!

Beautiful Respite Ocean Edge is a beautiful spot on the cape. The history is carefully maintained while modernizing its facilities. The Villa was well appointed and very clean completely with a patio. The food was delicious, especially the burger at Bayzo’s Pub! Will be back.
