Though much of this 4-star hotel’s decor dates back to the 1920s (when the property opened), the chandeliers and terrazzo floors have been refinished in a more contemporary style, and guest rooms have modern layouts and amenities.

  • Throwback Candy peddles made-from-scratch artisanal treats in throwback flavors. May contain nuts.
  • More food and drink options: Vault, a speakeasy where you can enjoy cocktails and small plates, and Glenn’s Cafe, which features French- and Louisiana-inspired cuisine and an award-winning wine list
  • In-room amenities: LCD TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, and Molton Brown bath products
  • Distance from Mizzou: less than a block from heart of the campus

Columbia, Missouri: College Town with Famous Film Festival

Located in the center of Missouri, halfway between Kansas and Saint Louis, the city of Columbia has been nicknamed College Town USA. It’s home to the University of Missouri, which has more than 70,000 students, and the activities tend to favor the young crowd. On Saturdays in the fall and winter, the focus is on college football—the Missouri Tigers play in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference.

Downtown Columbia is the cultural heart of the city, with shops, bars, music venues, and plenty of restaurants lining the streets. Check out UM’s Museum of Art and Archeology, where you can see Roman coins, Egyptian mummy masks, and paintings from ancient times to the present day in the extensive permanent collection. In particular, the ongoing Missouri Art and Artists exhibit is worth a look—it has paintings from local artists past and present.

when we arrived no one was at the desk...we had to find the manager in order to check in...I wish the young lady who came to the desk and the young lady in in the Velvet Cupcake would have been groomed better. The Velvet Cupcake lady was wearing a shirt that had been worn many times, shirt not tucked in; once the young lady came to the desk to check us in, I noticed she also was dressed rather sloppy; shirt not tucked in, hair not combed. When we returned from dinner in the evening, the young man at the desk was wearing a shirt and tie, smiling, and welcomed us.

Why should I be responsible for paying your employee healthcare with a fee??? At the end of my trip, I paid my bill, and I noticed a fee of $7.77 for employee healthcare benefits. I don't understand why I am responsible for paying an additional fee for their employees on top of my room rate. The hotel was nice, and I enjoyed staying there. But all the fees they added were not good.

Too many issues We stay at this hotel every year when we visit but I think we'll try the Broadway next. The hotel is pretty, it's in a perfect location, parking is fairly easy (except the height doesn't fit our truck in the garage so we have to find it on the street). The restaurant and bar in the hotel are great... One issue is that it's old and regularly things do not work. On previous trips it's been the elevator. This trip it was the air conditioner. For an entire weekend we couldn't get our room cooler than 79 degrees. We asked about it multiple times but unfortunately the desk folks can't do anything if it's broken. The restaurant had the same issue so we ate breakfast sweating lol. Unfortunately sleeping in heat doesn't work when we're paying $300+ / night for a suite.
