Niagara Falls, New York: Spectacular Waterfalls at United States–Canada Border

Every second, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water cascade down Niagara Falls. You can watch the water spill over jagged cliffs from pedestrian bridges and observation decks. The best view, though, might be from the Hurricane Deck, a wooden platform located 20 feet from Bridal Veil Falls. From spring to fall, you can access the platform by taking the Cave of the Winds tour, during which professional guides lead poncho-clad visitors to Bridal Veil Falls via wooden pathways. For an up-close encounter with the falls, you can book a ride aboard the Maid of the Mist; the tour boat shuttled sightseeing guests to the base of the thundering Horseshoe Falls for more than 100 years and continues to operate on the American side of the falls.

Millions of tourists have flocked to Niagara Falls since the early 1800s. Around that time, Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger brother honeymooned in the area with his American bride; scores of newlyweds followed in their footsteps, earning Niagara Falls the nickname of “Honeymoon Capital of the World.” But it’s not just romantics that flock to the border town; it’s also a family-friendly destination, thanks to its indoor water parks, an aquarium, arcades, and casinos for the 21-and-older crowd. For outdoorsy types, the 400-acre Niagara Falls State Park offers miles of hiking trails.

The room was nice. The staff is amazingly friendly. It was very close to the falls, and in the sub-zero tempatures that was an amazing feature. The restaurant was awful, but the bar the man running it was so nice the bar made up for it. As far as this offer goes, the price was comparable to what you would pay by calling the reservation desk. At least for the off-season.

Disgusting The location of this hotel is great for the Falls and sightseeing, but everything else sucks. The hotel is old, dingey, dirty and smelly. We couldn’t find our room at first because the room number on the exterior had been ripped off the wall. The furniture was at least 30 years old, excessively worn and very dirty. We found a pretzel inside the fold-out sofa; everything was covered in dust; the sliding glass door handle was broken; the bathroom was disgusting with a lot of hair on the floor that did not belong to us(!!), an old bar of soap left behind by a previous occupant, and all of the towels were damp; numerous bugs were inside the room, probably due to the food crumbs left behind on the carpet, but no bed bugs, thankfully. The free breakfast was dissatisfying. The Papa John’s inside the hotel is convenient but also very dirty. They should tear down this hotel and start over - I don’t even think a renovation would help at this point.

Never Again The proximity to the falls is very nice. We walked everywhere. The front desk clerk who checked us in was very friendly, but was overwhelmed with guests. The hotel itself is gross and needs to be upgraded. It needs to be cleaned better too. Our room had garbage on the carpet when we walked in the room. The elevator smelled like fire which is very reassuring. The pool looked sketchy and the breakfast was lacking. I would never stay here again.

Don’t believe the reviews While the location is very nice, close to everything, that’s the only good thing I have to say about it. Place was dark and dingy, rooms had stained bedding and towels. Bathroom door was coming off the hinges and barely closed. Shower had hair in it. Only 2 towels and washcloths for a booking of 4. Windows were stained with a white calcification. Coffee maker was filthy. The book in the room with floor plan and ads for local attractions was stained also, and last updated in 2017. The TV channel listing in the book were wrong and while the TV had HBO that wasn’t what was on that channel unless HBO now has commercials. Breakfast was offered which I hoped would redeem some of the problems, but it didn’t. They offered cereal, yoghurt, apple or orange juice, or a microwave egg and sausage sandwich, or cheese omelet. With no instructions I tried the sandwich microwaved it for 30 seconds then turned it over and microwaved it for another 30 seconds. Croissant was screaming hot, cheese melted, egg and sausage still frozen solid. Pool and hot tub looked nice but when we went to use the hot tub it was full of kids and pool toys and the pool had the adults hanging out. On the the plus side the beds were comfortable, the air conditioning while noisy worked, and the TV, and mini fridge worked as expected. The room was approximately $100 less than others we looked at, but in hindsight the other places would have been worth the extra money.
