Durham, North Carolina: Academia and Southern Cuisine in the Research Triangle

With Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State all within close proximity, Durham and the surrounding area is often called the Research Triangle, but it’s not just the universities’ academics that have added to the area’s charm. Thanks in part to the large international student population, restaurants abound with cuisines from around the world, as well as with Carolina-style barbecue, which is best known for its vinegar-infused sauce. The college atmosphere also lends itself to several local microbreweries.

There are several art galleries and museums in the area as well. In Durham, Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University promotes the visual arts with exhibits of ancient Peruvian burial masks and large-scale collages by Mark Bradford. The North Carolina Museum of Art’s collection includes European, African, and American works, with a special exhibit focusing on the French sculptor Auguste Rodin.

I like the place but expect to pay more when you get there Nice place, clean room, great downtown location. Lots of bars and restaurants in walking distance. Older hotel but room felt modern. Some rooms have better views than other but I had no complaints What I didn't like, $25 to park and another $16 in destination fees. JUNK FEES.

Roaches!! There are cockroaches at the property!! I found 2 in my room over the course of a 4 night stay and constantly saw them on my walk to the elevator. Very disappointed knowing this is a Hyatt property and all my experiences at a Hyatt have been positive except for this one

Great Hotel; Loud Outdoor Noise Unscripted Durham is a very cool, vibey, modern hotel with a great staff. It's centrally located near lots of restaurants and bars, and walking distance to the Durham Bulls stadium and the Durham Performing Arts Center. Lots to like about it. However, we were there for a wedding over a weekend and the late night noise outside in the square were ridiculous. Loud music, cars, motorcycles, and other sounds made sleeping difficult--which hurt the overall experience.
