Scottsdale, Arizona: Stucco Mansions amid Rocky Desert Landscape

Scottsdale once served as ranch land where farmers grew oranges and lemons and cowboys kicked up dust in the fierce, dry heat of the Sonoran Desert. That era earned Scottsdale the nickname of “The West’s Most Western Town.” Today, it is an affluent city landscaped with lush green grass and lined with stucco mansions. For a glimpse of the city’s Old West roots, head to Old Town Scottsdale, where wooden boardwalks and hitching posts sit in front of a retro ice-cream parlor and rustic specialty shops.

Upon arriving in Scottsdale, you know you’re in the desert—cacti and tumbleweeds dot the landscape, and dry shrubs and gnarled trees cover the McDowell Mountains in the distance. To get a closer look at Southwestern flora, head to the Desert Botanical Garden. There, themed trails wind past huge cacti and other moisture-hoarding succulents, best seen in the cooler early morning or twilight hours.

Easy golf getaway Great place to anchor for a quick golf getaway. Rooms are comfy, the pool is wonderful and the breakfast restaurant serves a fine start to the day. Shuttle service to the golf courses up the hill makes this an easy, car free stay. As a none gambler I appreciate the ease of navigating in and out of the hotel without the need to tramp through endless slot machines. The Cholla and Saguaro courses are top notch but this time of year frost delays may need to be taken into consideration and speed of play can suffer. I will be back next year!

Fantastic Conference Venue! I attended this resort for a conference and I was extremely impressed. Highlights: - The food provided for the conference was incredible, breakfast lunch and dinner. - The room was really nice and well taken care of every day by housekeeping. - The pool area was never crowded and was a great place to relax. - Gym had everything I needed for a good workout - They were really helpful for me as a first time gambler figure out the machines and had some house money to start with. My ONLY complaint was the entrance is very confusing to find the hotel check in. You walk right into the casino from the front doors and it’s confusing. Tips: - Don’t go into the main entrance, go further east to walk into the hotel. - I went for a run along the wash on the east side and up around the golf course, there are some really great views up there. - It wasn’t clear on the website, but the gym is available to every guest regardless of having a spa package or not. - Ahnala restaurant was my favorite outside of conference meals, they have some great prices/specials especially if you have a casino card.

Wedding Shenanigans Driving up to this property and there's nowhere to park to check in so pull into the lot and bring your things. There was a golf cart driving around asking folks if they wanted a lift to the door but he saw me twice, once when I parked near another couple he did ask and after I was on my way he drove right by me. I wonder why? They could label the check-in, registration area better because it's clearly separate from the casino but not evident walking up. Check in was cool and quick, Leann was kind! She offered me a map and let me know where the wedding i would be attending was. The room is lackluster, def NOT worth the $ two plus bills I paid, it's up to date but outdated at the same time, maybe it's the furniture. The fixtures were nice, the shower was hot and everything seemed clean though. Positive I'll never be here again. Lastly, for you all to be in the middle of nowhere, why don't you have electric vehicle charging!? OMG
