Fredericksburg, Virginia: Civil War Battle Sites and Museums About an Hour Outside of DC

Few American towns pack as much history into a 40-block historic downtown area as does Fredericksburg, a quaint colonial village situated 55 miles south of Washington, DC. Fredericksburg has played host to some of the nation’s key historical figures—this is where George Washington spent his formative years, fifth president James Monroe began his law practice, and Abraham Lincoln met with his generals during the Civil War. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Fredericksburg Historic District is lined with hundreds of historical landmarks and several museums.

Another one of the area's highlights is Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park, which marks the grounds where the Civil War reached its violent climax. It's the second-largest military park in the world, spanning four battlefields, and it's possible to tour each of them on foot or by car.

The outside area was very nice. The inside area is small for 5 people and the mattresses are very thin and uncomfortable. However, we did spend most of out time outside and all the attractions were really great.

Overall very happy Nice stay. Very nice amenities. Will stay here again I'm sure in the future. Only negative was there was not a lot of options to use while cooking in the way of pots and pans etc.

Peaceful and Tranquil Resort Great place to get away for quiet and relaxation. Resort is part of an RV camp but RV'ers were all kind and courteous. We enjoyed ourselves and the grandkids had plenty of room to stretch out and run around.

Always a great time at the Resort My wife and I always have a great time at the resort. We bring our canoe and love to fish at the lake. A few years ago I submitted a photo of three cabins on the lake front reflecting in the water. To my surprise they now use that photo in the cabin packet they hand out at the beginning of your stay. It's an honor to see my photo in that packet every year we visit
