Bermuda: British Whimsy Meets Island Living in the Middle of the Atlantic

Life on the secluded Atlantic island of Bermuda centers on the capital city of Hamilton, where buildings awash in gentle pastels hug the harbor. The island is a part of the British Commonwealth, and reminders of England abound; check out the sculptures (and well-sculpted rose bushes) at Queen Elizabeth Park, admire the stained glass at the Anglican Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, or take afternoon tea at one of the city’s many tea rooms. The main drag, Front Street, is a prime spot to browse souvenirs.

The island is full of natural wonders beyond the comforts of the capital. Pink-sand beaches stretch across much of the coastline, making beautiful backdrops for sunbathing and reef-diving expeditions. The island’s volcanic past is evident at Crystal Caves, where you can explore underground pools and delicate rock formations that were shaped over millions of years.

Absolutely perfect for what type of vacation I was looking for . Quiet and far away from everything. Probably not for people looking to be pampered and waited on but if you want serenity and beauty this is your place.

Lovely resort and very friendly community. Very nice to have private beaches but wished they were kept a little cleaner. Private beaches were perfect for snorkeling. Breakfast was delicious and room service was great, but there are extra fees for each day of room service. Employees were very helpful in advising bus routes and recommending places to eat. Would certainly come back.

It is in the heart of Bermuda your close to the most popular and gorgeous beaches and very close to the dockyards. Very good and many choices for breakfast that is included with your stay. And if you look closely you’ll see turtles and parrot fish right in front of the resort. Awesome beach location right at the there resort. We rented scooters right at our resort that made it easy to get around !

A wonderful one night stay We booked the hotel last minute because we needed one night to stay before we got on a cruise. We didn’t even look at reviews but we were pleasantly surprised! The rooms are remodeled, clean, air conditioned and beautiful. The bed was super comfortable. Beach towels included in the room. The restaurant was AMAZING! All the food we ordered was delicious. The ocean beach is small and private, no waves, and a nice sand bar makes it easy to walk out into the water a long way. Also all the employees are fantastic. Kind, helpful, and very friendly! This is a hidden gem in Bermuda and we would definitely stay here again. Thanks Willowbank for a wonderful stay!

Lovely Views, Poor Management My husband and I stayed at Willowbank for the Fourth of July weekend. Things got rocky for us right from the start. We booked an ocean-view room and it was not available when we got there. The manager put us in a pool-view room and gave us a $50 credit towards food and drinks at the on-site restaurant. The pool-view room was tiny, had non-existent water pressure in the shower, and the price difference between the two rooms was far more than $50. We were not adequately compensated for the inconvenience. We had to stay there the first night and my husband ended up having to make multiple trips to the front desk on Day 2 for them to finally get the room we paid for available. There was poor communication amongst staff which made a few reasonable things we requested either delayed or denied. We will definitely be back to Bermuda, but not this resort. Here are the pros and cons of Willowbank: Pros -Beautiful views -There are two beaches on the resort and most days my husband and I had the beach closet to our room to ourselves. -It's very, VERY quiet. If you want a chill vacation, this is your spot. -There are two bus stops very close to the resort and the buses are clean and safe. WIllowbank is far from everything, so you'll need transportation to go anywhere. -The security guards were helpful and resourceful. Cons -As noted above, Willowbank is far from everything, so if you don't want to take a bus somewhere, your only option is to take an expensive taxi (and even with that, you have to tell the front desk an hour before you need your taxi). -Bermuda is a pricey place in general and Willowbank's on-site restaurant is no exception. On top of that, the food is not great. -Poor management. Because of a lack of record-keeping and communication, we had to repeat our simple requests (Is our room available?, Is the taxi on the way? etc) multiple times to multiple staffers. Willowbank could use an organizational audit to streamline these basic functions.

Peaceful, Amazing Views but Hilly We stayed at Willowbank for four nights in late June, and found it to be a very peaceful, restful, quiet resort with an amazing location while the staff exceeded our expectations. With that said, here are some additional thoughts. The property is up on a hill and there are many challenging paths to transverse for two 70 year olds like us to walk to get to the dining area, pool and beaches. This may not be a concern to some however it was for us. Room…. We had a remodeled room with a spectacular view of the water, which included a nice patio. All areas have amazing views of the water. The room was clean and comfortable. I would add that when we were taken to our room I was concerned because that area outside the door had no grass and looked a bit rundown however the room made up for it. Dining… included was a continental breakfast which was nice however was not too vast. Included was bread for toast, small muffins and danish, yogurt and some fresh fruit. Lots of carbs however you can order a la cart for additional charge. It would have been nice to have a hard boiled egg or cereal added. Can dine inside or out and outside dining offers spectacular views. We had dinner there once and it was ok but soup was real salty Pool and Beaches… as mentioned if you wish to go to either of these places, you have to walk down steep hills and back up them to go to your room. There are two beaches, one very small that has beach chairs, and a couple umbrellas and the second one is larger with beach chairs, also available for free The pool again is a walk and is not very resort like but it is fine with not a lot going on around it. I will add that while my wife was in the pool someone was walking their dog and the dog jumped in the pool with her. She got out questioned whether or not pets were allowed at Willowbank. There is nothing really around off property that you’ll have to take a cab to which are very expensive or you can take the bus which is right outside the front gate which we did quite a number of times. You can purchase the token for the bus or the ferry inside The office at Willowbank and they are quite safe, air condition and the people are extremely nice. In closing, we enjoyed our stay at Willowbank. It is very peaceful, and not a lot of action going on. The terrain was difficult for us. but it may not be for you, And again the people there were so helpful, friendly, and amazing and we would go back again BTW….There are tennis courts next to the pool, but there are no nets up and they were look like in the process of trying to repaint the lines and remodel or redo them.
