Olympic National Park: Forests, Mountains, and Colorful Tide Pools

Olympic National Park can feel like three parks in one: you can find everything from snowcapped mountains to ocean tide pools to ancient forests. One of the best ways to explore the sprawling wilderness is to drive on Highway 101, which circumnavigates the Olympic Peninsula. The highway zips along the Pacific coastline, passing plenty of scenic outlooks and trailheads. After a scenic drive, delve into the forest via the Peabody Creek Trail, which makes a half-mile loop from the visitor center’s parking lot. Most trails are open year-round, with opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

One of Olympic National Park’s most appealing features is its tide pools filled with aquatic plants and animals, such as the giant green anemone that looks like a blooming flower. You can explore the tide pools at low tide all year long, but the best time to visit is in the summer, when rangers host informative programs.

No free WIFI and $81 for a tourism/travel tax! Beware the townhouse has 5 levels and 32 steps. No free WIFI ($6 daily) and they now charge $81 for a tourism/travel tax. However the unit was very nice as it had been upgraded recently. We used RCI to exchange into the resort. Be aware this is a multi-story townhouse with LOTS of steps to access the 5 levels. You have to be in good health and mobile to go up and down 32 steps from bottom to top. The on-site restaurant is still not open so you have to drive 15 miles to Sequim to buy groceries or eat at restaurants. The pool/jacuzzi was closed for remodeling so there was not much to do at the resort. It was a relaxing stay except for the 4" of snow and power outage which scared us!

Water view Beautiful view, clean, comfortable and there is a boat dock, indoor pool and nicely finished rooms. We try to go every year. We love this location. The resort sits right at the waters edge so the sights are beautiful and you can see big fireworks across the water on the 4th of July.

Room Not Clean Bring your own cleaning supplies. Cherry pit on floor. Plastic sticky freezie wrapper on window sill. The condiment basket was not refilled. I spilled water on the kitchen floor and the cloth used to wipe it up was black. Check out is 10 am. To make up for the filthy room, I asked for a later check out. The must start cleaning all of the rooms exactly at 10:00 an. I could not be accomodated.

Dated condo, but spacious We spent three nights in a two bedroom condo at this resort. We were not in a waterfront condo, as pictured, but further up the hill. It appears to me that the pictured condos are privately owned. Our condo had a tiny Kitchen where it was difficult to have more than one person at a time doing any prep or clean-up work. The pots and pans were old, and not suitable for the glass topped stove and otherwise the kitchen was minimally equipped. There was a toaster and a coffee maker, but no tea kettle, or hand mixer. If you are trying to load the dishwasher, you can't open the refrigerator, as they bump into each other. The dining table was wobbly, and the legs on the table made it impossible to sit comfortably. There is a tennis court and an indoor swimming pool at this resort, however the tennis court is in very poor condition, with bad cracks and potholes. The chlorine smell of the pool is very strong, even outside the building, so we were not tempted to use it. Staying here did give us easy access to Port Townsend and Fort Flagler State Park, and had we stayed longer, more scenic spots on the Olympic Peninsula. There are no restaurants within walking distance, so you definitely need to plan for that.
