Downtown San Antonio: Skyscrapers and the Alamo near the Original Riverwalk

In the late 1920s, architect Robert H. H. Hugman designed an urban park around the San Antonio River. He envisioned a space that would be the American version of Venice, where people could shop and dine along the waterfront. The original section, a 2.5-mile riverwalk running through downtown, was completed in 1941. It’s been a vital artery in the heart of San Antonio ever since; so vital, in fact, that the city added two extensions in the 2000s—Museum Reach and Mission Reach—that elongated the riverwalk to 15 miles total.

Located one story below street level, the downtown section of the riverwalk bustles day and night. Stone pathways on either side of the river wind past waterfalls and public art installations on their way to restaurants, boutiques, and lively cantinas that stay open well into the night. Downtown San Antonio is also where you’ll find the Alamo. The historic mission-turned-fortress is one of the most visited tourist sites in the state, thanks to the 1836 battle that made it a symbol of Texas independence. Admission is free for all ages.

Beautiful Room and exceptional view! All pros but one con. The Murphy bed was uncomfortable and mattress was dented in on some areas. I want to book the suite again but will ask about the bed when reserving. This resort was magical and relaxing. You really don't need to leave the resort except to get food. Will definitely book again. Pictures don't do the resort justice. Book today@

Relaxing in the Texas Hill Country The resort was very nice with great amenities, but we did have one issue with bed bugs. The small town of Ingram offered great dining at Copper Pot and Billie Gene's, and it was a short drive to Fredericksburg for some wine tasting. We had a private river access that was very convenient with nice rapids and watering holes. Overall it was a relaxing week.

Stablewood Springs Nice Vacay We enjoyed our stay at Stablewood Springs Resort. The staff was welcoming and pleasant. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit, which was just fine for us as a couple. Propane grills and a picnic table were located next to our building. The swimming pool was large and luxurious, with hot tub and 3 handicap accessible lifts. We attended a Stargazing party Saturday evening which was quite interesting. I will say the carpet on both the front and back door needed attention. We dealt with ants in the kitchen.WiFi was o.k., but t.v. reception was constantly digitizing and signal was spotty. The overall experience was quite pleasant and unit was furnished nicely. Just wished there had been more organized activities in the resort.

Great location Awesome rooms, very clean and updated. Large size of units with plenty of room. We were able to visit state parks and local townships within 1-2 hour distance. Lots to do.
