Ocean Shores, Washington: Lengthy Beaches and Links-Style Golf

In July and December, high tides bring natural drama to Point Brown peninsula, the skinny landmass in coastal Washington that’s home to the city of Ocean Shores. At those times of year, waves up to 12 feet high pound the coast with a deafening roar. During the tides, spectators gather to see strong winds whip the sea into a frenzy.

But most of the time, this seaside resort town is calm. At Ocean Shores Golf Course, the only furor you’re likely to see is from players who lose golf balls in the thick rough of the links-style back nine. And with some 30 miles of beaches—some of them reachable only on foot—Ocean Shores offers plenty of quiet spots to relax and soak up the gorgeous Pacific Northwest scenery.

Very nice resort It is always hit and miss with the PNW weather off the ocean. We had decent weather but on the cool side for July. The Worldmark Mariner Village is a pretty nice resort on the beach. The decks are spacious. The two bedroom units we enjoyed were very well equipped with everything needed to enjoy living on the beach. The resort has a nice pool area with hot tub, game room, bbq area and outdoor fire pit. The resort staff was fantastic, helpful and interesting. The resort is very clean, tidy and appealing. Our rooms were on the 4th floor and had incredible views. There were two bedrooms and a comfortable murphy bed in the living room. The master bedroom has an ada type bathroom. The second bedroom had two twin beds. Both bedrooms have tv's. The living room was spacious with a gas fireplace, large tv, dvd player, music system and fantastic views. The kitchen had the same view with full size appliances and kitchen ware. There is a stacked washer dryer by the entrance. The deck has a table and four chairs. Every day we would see deer roaming the resort area and grassy dunes. I went surf fishing and caught a bucket load of red tail surf perch. I also caught dungenous crab. Some of the activities we enjoyed were swimming, hot tubing, horse back riding, bike riding, fishing and shopping. We had both of the rooms filled with kids and grand kids. Other excursions included driving north up the coast, driving to the Westport Winery, Westport, Aberdeen and Damon Point hikes. All in all it was a very nice trip. Bill

Ocean View My husband and I stayed here for a week. We got lucky and had a corner room on the top floor. The view of the beach/ocean was fantastic. Watched deer daily from our balcony. We were disappointed that the grills have been removed from the patio and placed near the pool and the recreation room. Definitely didn't feel like taking the food downstairs and back up again. Too cool to eat around the patio/grill area. There isn't a whole lot to do in Ocean Shores but Ruby Beach is worth the drive north for one day. Another day we spent hiking/exploring Quinault Rainforest. The condo was spacious with fireplace and kitchen was fairly well equipped. Quiet at night. The pool and hot tub was constantly in use. You have to pay for WiFi which is ridiculous! Even McDonald's gives free access to WiFi

The ocean is on your doorstep. The views are great. Very nice facility. Staff are very helpful. Facility is top rate. We had an ocean-view unit, and spent a lot of time on the deck just basking in the ocean breeses and salt air. Well-appointed kitchen and grocery store was an easy drive away.

2 days away from hustle and bustle As an owner I have yet to find a resort that did not raise to my expectations. If you are coming to a resort to find lots of things to do within walking distance this is not the place. Ocean Shores as a city does not have sidewalks. Mariner Village is next to the oceans with a short walk through the native grass and over the berm. Unlike Long Beach, the beach sand is less floury and easier to walk on. Another reviewer mentioned the deer. We had a buck come to just under our 2nd floor balcony without much concern. The 1 bedroom unit was clean and all of the appliances and fixtures worked. The staff was up to my expectations or a little above. All in all, our visit was too short but very relaxing as was our purpose in visiting.

Not as great as before I'll start by saying that I am an owner and have stayed at this resort many times. I would consider it my favorite Worldmark resort to visit when I just need a quick get away from city life. For the first time ever, I was put in a unit on the bottom floor. Ugghhh! What a difference in my enjoyment of the resort. I've always had at least a partial view of the ocean. On the bottom floor, I was located about 10 steps away from the pool with a shed of some sort right outside my patio and no view whatsoever. Furthermore, I have always used my own data and never had the need to use their wifi. This bottom floor unit felt like a cave and I could not get decent data on my phone. I promptly went to guest services and explained my data problem and requested complimentary wifi. Staff tried to tell me the wifi wasn't very good and it would make no difference, but I insisted. An additional staff member was called out (a manager?) and after spending a good 5-10 minutes of typing information into the computer, I was given a simple code to use for wifi. Voila! I had a good strong wifi signal. In my opinion, wifi should always be complimentary, but certainly to any guest assigned to that particular unit. Everything else in the unit was in perfect working order. I love the gas fireplace, full kitchen, and the beds here are super comfortable. I think I get some of the best sleep at this place. With all that said though - I have found that not getting an upper floor does indeed hinder my full enjoyment of this resort. In fact, I had also booked 2 nights at the end of October, which I chose to cancel as I'm not willing to stay on the bottom floor again. Up until recently, when booking at this resort, guests knew whether they were getting a unit on the upper floors or the lower floors. Worldmark took away this designation, and the view of my unit has become increasingly worse with every visit. Staff here are always friendly, but it feels like their hands are tied or something, as they should always be trying to accommodate a repeat visitor and owner such as myself. There's nothing more annoying than getting an inferior unit when I am an actual owner, and visitors that book from 3rd party get a better unit. It's just not right.
