Tucson, Arizona: Southwestern History and Culture amid the Cacti

Over Tucson's long history, it's absorbed elements from the many peoples who have lived or passed through here: Native Americans, Europeans, Latinos, and Asians to name a few. Today, this unique blend is especially evident in the downtown restaurant scene, where you can get authentic chilies rellenos, sushi, and upscale bistro food with fine wines from nearby vintners.

Visitors can soak up the area's gorgeous natural landscape at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, a combined botanical garden and zoo. Here, gila monsters and more than 1,200 kinds of plants inhabit 21 acres of desert scenery. Among Tucson's manmade wonders is Mission San Xavier del Bac, a white adobe church whose interior is adorned with frescoes and sculptures. It was built in the 1700s and is one of the oldest intact European structures in Arizona.

Rancho Vistoso in Oro Valley is Fabulous! Four ladies (age 60 to 67) stayed a week at Rancho Vistoso and we fell in love with the place. The facilities were top notch, the staff was exceptionally helpful and welcoming, everything was very clean, and the area (Oro Valley) - looking right at the Catalina Mountains, was simply beautiful. The area was easy to navigate, quiet, and it had the feel of a safe community. All of us honestly felt it was the best service, location and accomodations that we have ever had. We stayed another week at another resort just outside of Phoenix, and as nice as that was, Rancho Vistoso was the hands down the best, and we missed it. We have been vacationing out west for several years now, and have had some amazing vacations. But nothing - NOTHING - topped Rancho Vistoso. Thank you all at Rancho Vistoso!

Nice and good location Nice place but weird location….right in the heart of a subdivision. But good location to various places and things to do. Clean place, good stocked with amenities. Quiet and easy to get in/out of. Front desk staff is very nice and informative.

Quite and relaxing The staff were very helpful and nice! The views of the Catalina mountains were amazing. The nearby walking/biking trails are great and if you’re into bird watching you won’t be disappointed. The whole place was well maintained. I will definitely go back!
