Downtown Seattle, Washington: Art, Architecture, and Famous Coffee in Coastal Urban Center

Street performances, flowers, and fresh-caught fish find a common home at Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Founded in 1907, it's where both sightseers and locals shop. Drop into the Fish Market to watch the staff tossing salmon, halibut, and cod—a famous tradition. There are plenty of nonperishable goods as well, including jewelry and other crafts. And you might want to take a picture in front of the market’s iconic sign, which now rivals the Space Needle as the city’s most recognizable symbol.

The original Starbucks coffeehouse has operated out of Pike Place since the 1970s. You can stop here for a pick-me-up before taking the half-mile walk to Seattle's Central Library. Whether you love books or architecture or both, this futuristic-looking library is worth a visit. The 11-story glass-and-steel structure consists almost entirely of diamond-shaped windows arranged to look like a geometric net. The otherworldly interior is a playground for book lovers. Be sure to check out the library’s “living room” in the morning, when sunlight creates a kaleidoscopic shadow on the floor.

It’s like the South Park Aspen Episode time share. Have you seen the South Park episode where they go to Aspen on a time share holiday? This was exactly how it felt. My parents have 65,000 points with Worldmark and booked this for us. Upon checking in we were greeted by the concierge. When she asked how we were we said we’ve just flown for 30 hours and couldn’t wait to get to our room. After giving us a basic layout of Seattle and things to do she then pushed and pushed for us to go to one of their stupid presentations. She said we’re giving away a week holiday etc. Anyway we said we’re not interested and she said along the lines of “why wouldn’t you want a free week?”, because we’ve travelled for hours on end and we just want bed/shower etc. anyway asked for wi-fi password to which you cannot get as a guest of the owner - they have to be with you OR you go to the stupid presentation. If we went to ask a question then you get harassed to go to the presentation. We finally gave in after day 3 as they said they would explain how to use my dad’s points as he’s giving them to me. NO they tried to then harass us into buying our own. 3 “sales” people pushed and pushed. $27,000USD for 10,000 points what a joke!!! Plus $3k a year in maintenance fees. Show me the ROI. There’s none. Even my dad regrets buying the points. He can’t sell them for what he paid and if you’re Australian Centrelink count it as an asset. My husband has zero interest in my dad’s points after this whole experience.

Great Boutique Hotel Great staff. 100 year old hotel with many amenities. Right in the heart of downtown Seattle. Close to Pike Market and high end shopping. Many fine eateries nearby and conveniently close to the Seattle Center where the Space Needle, Chiluly Glass and MoPOP museum.

Great History and Ambiance A wonderful mix of history with fresh decor and modern amenities. Be aware the kitchens do not have ovens, ranges or even allow for portable cooktops so shop microwaveable and not frozen foods (no freezer space) or use the kitchen downstairs. It’s a fun older property with a lot of pride of the history shown throughout including the basement display. Wine served nightly was a nice touch. Will definitely be back.

Great weekend getaway Stayed at the Worldmark Camlin (Seattle) in studio courtyard room. Courtyard rooms were separated from the main hotel on the ground level. They had happy hour in the lobby at 6pm (cheese/cracker/salami/grapes with wine or soda, and also a popcorn machine). Room had a pull down Murphy bed, loveseat, chair, table for 2 and mini kitchen with sink, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, toaster and blender. Plates, bowls, cups, utensils, wine opener, and knives were provided. If you have a car, it’s $35 per night for parking. The garage was a bit difficult to find having to go down the alley. You get a key fob to unlock the gate and you have to take the stairs up to the street level. It’s locked on the street side so you have to ask them to unlock it to get down to the parking lot. Best part is passing by the dog daycare between the Camlin and the garage stairs. Location in downtown was awesome - right across from convention center. Easy walk to Westlake Center, Pike Market and Seattle Center/Space Needle. We felt safe walking even at night.
