Salt Lake City: Mormon Heritage, Skiing, and the Great Salt Lake

Surrounded by mountains on every side, Utah's capital city sprawls across a broad valley that draws visitors looking to play in the great outdoors. Skiing in the nearby Wasatch Range is one of the most popular pastimes; there are eight ski resorts in a 50-mile range of the city. The area receives nearly 500 inches of snow annually, and several resorts offer access to slopes suitable for skiers of all skill levels. Summer visitors can still go to the ski areas for hiking and trail rides. There are also warm-weather activities just outside the city limits in the 2.1 million acres of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and near the Great Salt Lake—the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and a remnant of a prehistoric inland lake.

Those interested in the origins of the city or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can check out the Church History Museum, home to a large collection of Mormon art and artifacts. If you’re looking to research your own genealogy, visit the Family History Library—which is free to the public—and search through a large database with the help of professional staffers and trained volunteers. Both the museum and the library are adjacent to Temple Square, one of Salt Lake City’s most popular attractions, where tranquil gardens surround the iconic Salt Lake Temple.

Little to No Amenitites The lodging was great but there were no amenities on site. We had to travel up the mountain at a 16% grade to enjoy at a different resort. Amenities on website had not been available since Jan. 2023.

Utah Visit Our overall experience at the resort was wonderful. The personnel at the front office was superb and the accommodations second to none.

Slice of Eden Great location for Powder Mtn or Snowbasin. Quiet area with small local shops and dining in the area. Grocery store down the road and Ogden only 20 mins away if you need more. Condos are large and well equipped.

Older development, dated but in a great location. We have stayed in Wolf Creek village one 4 times over the years. This is the original building of about 14 units, half one bedroom and half two bedroom. Very dated, and the oldest we have stayed in. On the grounds of the Worldmark Resort where there are much nicer and newer units. We were not able to use the Worldmark recreation facility this year and had to travel 7 mile up the mountain to the summit of Powder Mountain for the Hot tub and pool. Definitely a negative, sine the other recreation center is only a 100 yards away. We stay here primarily for skiing at Snow Basin and Powder Mountain, so make the best of it. But it’s on the lower end of the scale of our timeshare experiences. (20 resorts in the past two years!). Great location however, and Eden Utah is growing fast!

Great location and clean-modern townhouse Location was in Eden so close to food, gas, groceries. Close to Powder Mt and Snowbasin for skiing. The unit itself was clean, new to newish furnishings, appliances, cookware. We were in unit 611. Only improvement would have been some winter common areas were lacking. There was a large hot tub open but the pool and open areas were all closed.
