Downtown Boston: Revolution-Era Landmarks and Modern Skyscrapers

Downtown Boston is home to one of the country’s wackiest city layouts. Its colonial-village lanes converge, split, and take hairpin turns, creating a maze of cobblestone that, though frustrating for drivers, makes for a fun walking experience. If you’re visiting for the first time, the best way to navigate the area is to follow the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail, which takes you past 16 historical landmarks, including Paul Revere's home, Old North Church (of “One if by land, two if by sea” fame), and Faneuil Hall. You can use Boston public transportation to explore the city if you tire of walking.

Since the area is also the city’s financial district, centuries-old fixtures share sidewalk space with modern 40-story office towers. You’ll find suit-clad professionals grabbing lunch on Washington Street, which is lined with street vendors and flower shops. Downtown is also where you’ll find several of the city’s quirkier neighborhoods, such as the Leather District. With its rustic warehouses, the neighborhood is the closest example of what the business center looked like in the 1800s.

Check-in was fast and very friendly. The room was quiet and clean. We went to the restaurant and had dinner; poutine, caprese sandwich (awesome fries) and wings were more than plenty for two people. The view was of a building under repair, we didn’t care. We were there for one frigid night after a Boston Pops Concert. We were warm comfortable in a clean room, can’t ask for much more than that

The room was a bit dingy and older, overall it was clean. What really made it nice was the staff . They were amazing and so kind. Everyone we interacted with was helpful and so sweet.

BUDGET STAY IN BEACON HILL Staying in Beacon Hill, or anywhere in Boston really, is really expensive. So while this room was not cheap, it was at least not shockingly expensive. The "lobby" is not really a lobby, just sort of a hallway with a check in desk. VERY small. It's a busy, crowded hotel likely due to the relatively inexpensive price. The rooms are as expected for such a price. It was fine, the rooms was clean and the beds and bedding comfortable. I would stay again if this is the area I wanted to visit. My only cautionary tale is the parking. The adjacent garage is $60/night. Ouch.

Nothing wrong but no reason to return Hotels in Boston are expensive, but even knowing this I thought the Wyndham Boston Beacon Hill was over priced. Our room was ordinary and the bathroom in particular needs updating, or at the very least, scrubbing! We stayed 5 nights for an event. Nobody acknowledged that we were there for several nights. A warning to those who might want to sleep in: there's a hospital being built directly across the street, and the noise starts at 6 AM.

great place to stay nice room and excellent staff, great place to stay. the room has a fridge and microwave which is very handy and it is within walking distance of three supermarkets..the train station is very close by too, making getting around very easy. we could easily get to td gardens by train instead of walking and to boston commons.
