Kailua Kona, Hawaii: White-Sand Beaches and Thriving Coffee Farms

A couple hundred years ago, the seaside village of Kailua Kona was a beach retreat for Hawaii's royal families. Expansive summer homes cropped up along the village's picturesque shoreline, taking full advantage of the white sands and clear turquoise waters (some homes are open to the public, including Hulihee Palace and Ahuena Heiau). This village—known as "Kona" to locals—is more accessible to the everyday visitor today.

One of Kona's most famous exports is its coffee. The beans are grown in rich volcanic soils along the western slopes of Mount Hualalai, and then picked by hand, dried in the sun, and roasted. Many coffee farms, such as the organic Blair Estate, offer tours and tastings throughout the year. Be sure to try a cup of peaberry; its small, round beans have a more concentrated flavor and are considered by many to be the best variety of Kona coffee.

Lovely but more security needed I love the Wyndham Kona Hawaiian, the area ,the scenery, is just gorgeous! But it appears many of the employees are allowing friends or family in the pool areas! Cars are filled with children coming to use these pools , which should be calm and relaxed are crazy and kids jumping throwing balls like spring break at all times! I was pretty disappointed

Good Trip but had some issues Sound quality of rooms not great, hear conversation from different building come thru walls, floor and windows. Security need to make more rounds thru site do to people having loud conversations while others are trying to sleep at 2am and smoking pot in a kids friendly resort. They need to be more proactive with things like this if they want to have rules.

Club Wyndham Kona, not happy! On arrival we found that the resort apartment that we had was in desperate need of updating! The furniture lounge suite had stains, the carpet needed a shampoo, some of the power outlets did not work, both showers had mold on the tiles and show heads, we had ants in the main bathroom and the sink drain age plug did not work. The air-cond units for the building were old an noisy. we were woken up many time during the night, when one of the 2 units in our block turned on. However, I must say that the staff were polite and helpful to get the issues resolved by, offering us another available room in a nosier area, which we weren't interested in. The staff offered us another available room in a nosier area, which we weren't interested in, but wanted our apartment cleaned. The staff got the maintenance team to resolve the issues by having the cleaners scrub the showers, replace the shower heads, replace the power outlets, replace the drain plug and supply a can of spray for the ants (which we had to spray). The stains on the furniture lounge suite was resolved by covering the furniture with King size bed sheets. Nothing was done about the carpet. It should not have happened, nor should my wife and i have to deal with these issues after a 10 hour flight from Australia, followed but a painful 2+ hours transfer from Honolulu to Kona.

Best of Kailua-Kona This is the best resort we have stayed at on the Big Island of Hawaii. The rooms are spacious for 4 and absolutely clean. Staff here are friendly. The location cannot be beat, less than 30 minutes drive to the airport and central to everything in Kailua-Kona. We cannot wait to come back.

Family Vacation Property is older but well taken care of. Staff is friendly and very hospitable. Although clean, the rooms have a certain smell (nothing major) that I believe is from having old carpet. There’s a bar area at the pool that is simply there; we thought we could get drinks and order food but it’s just for looks I guess. Being that it is Hawaii we all expected at least Lei once we arrived on property but nothing was really provided… these are just simple things that can be taken in consideration and would’ve made our experience in Hawaii extra special!
