Omaha, Nebraska: Historic Downtown with Vibrant Arts and Dining Scenes

The largest city in Nebraska, Omaha is located near the Iowa-Nebraska border, on the western shore of the Missouri River. The city has been praised as an affordable place to visit and live; The Huffington Post named Omaha the top “Best Bang for Your Buck” city in 2012. Most of the city’s restaurants and bars are concentrated in the historic Old Market district, a cluster of cobblestone streets and turn-of-the-century buildings located downtown. There’s also a lively cultural scene here, from Broadway shows and jazz concerts at the Orpheum Theater to large-scale sculptures and ceramics courtesy of resident artists at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.

Visitors can learn about the city’s history at The Durham Museum. Housed in Omaha’s former Union Station—a beautiful art-deco building built in 1931—the Smithsonian-affiliated museum is the place to see 1940s storefronts, explore vintage train cars, and drink a strawberry phosphate from the authentic 1931 soda fountain.

I showed up at the hotel and was told I needed a confirmation number with the hotel. I was told there was no payment towards the room. Also told it was personally booked with an American Express card which I do not have. We were not able to stay and had to drive 5 hours home and miss our next day plans.

Pleasantly Surprised! After the reading the terrible reviews about this hotel, I was skeptical to stay at this property. Upon arrival we were checked in by a courteous woman. When we walked into the room, it smelled heavily of a sweet spray, but was not noticeable once situated. The room was large with a desk and recliner type chair. There was a refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom was much larger than average hotels. We did not use the shower, but checking, it was clean. The bed was clean and comfortable. My only complaint was the pillows were not to my liking. I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast selection. It had sausage, "real" hard boiled eggs, yogurts, fresh fruits, pastries and muffins, assorted breads, a waffle station and assorted juices, milk and coffee. We were there on a Sunday morning so don't know about the week days. Our room was clean, but the carpet showed signs of wear with a few stains, but not dirty. This was once a top of the line hotel. This can be seen by the reception area carpeting and woodwork. The pool was large, but very humid. I did not go into the fitness area, but saw the room. I would definitely stay at this property again.

Would book again! The outside left a bit to be desired, but I never felt unsafe. The interior, while dated and not the hot spot for conferences it probably once was, was clean and well kept. Our room was comfortable and clean. It’ll save you a little bit of money by not paying $100+ each night for a hotel. We didn’t get to use the pool as they had some chemical issues due to the heat. They do have a small breakfast - mainly cereal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, toast, bagels, waffles. Overall I was very pleased with the property for the price! I would definitely stay here again!

Alright The rooms are nice, the beds are comfortable, it was pretty quiet for the most part. Down side of the room? There was old ramen on the floor next to ac unit. The breakfast options were the same both days, all cold with the exception of waffles and the lines were too long to have kids in tow. The pool was nice and there was a good workout area as well. Over all it was an alright stay but felt like it was lazily run.
