Day 1: San Jose
Once you arrive at Juan Santamaría Airport in Costa Rica, a guide will pick you up and take you about 3.5 hours north to Casa Luna Hotel & Spa located in La Fortuna. The eco-conscious hotel features spectacular up-close views of Arenal Volcano which, until recently, was Costa Rica's most active volcano. Take the rest of the day exploring the property, which includes a pool, a restaurant, and an indoor-outdoor spa.
Days 2–3: La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano
There’s no set itinerary on Day 2, so you can enjoy a day of leisure or sign up for one of the optional tours: a trip to the Hanging Bridges includes a 1.5-mile hike through Costa Rica’s lush vegetation, for example, and there are also rafting, rappelling, and cultural tours available.
On Day 3, the adventure kicks off early in the morning with a horseback ride through the dense rainforest skirting the base of Arenal Volcano. Perhaps the best way to take in the landscape, though, is from overhead—you'll take a zipline ride that zooms through the forest canopy. The evening closes with a visit to the 29,000-acre Arenal Volcano National Park, where you’ll see lava rock fields and a dazzling sunset.
Day 4–5: Samara and Carrillo Beach
The final leg of your trip will be spent on Costa Rica’s western shore, a secluded area known for its prime surfing beaches. Guanamar Hotel, located on a hill overlooking Carrillo Beach, has spectacular views of the tropical surroundings from both the guest rooms and its open-air restaurant.
The hotel can coordinate a range of adventure tours: observe leatherback and sea turtles at a protected beach, go deep-sea fishing in the open waters, or zipline through lush rainforest canopies in the Tempisque lowlands. The waters around Playa Carrillo are protected by a rocky reef, making it a nice spot for diving, kayaking, and swimming.
7-Day Tour with Dolphin Snorkeling Tour and Monteverde Trip

Day 4: Monteverde
After arriving at Monteverde (boat transportation included), you’ll embark on a guided tour of El Trapiche, a local farm and sugar mill with banana, coffee and cocoa plantations. Along the way, you’ll learn about the crops’ cultivation process and take a ride in an oxen cart.
Days 5–7: Samara and Carrillo Beach
The final three days feature the same activities as the 5-day tour option; see above.
Dolphin and Snorkeling Tour
Included in the 7-night tour option only is a dolphin sightseeing and snorkeling tour. On Day 6 or 7—your choice—guides takes you 2–10 miles offshore to see spotted dolphins, Central American spinner dolphins, bottle-nose dolphins, and humpback whales.
