9- or 10-Night Cruise in the Western Caribbean
Board the luxurious Costa Deliziosa in Fort Lauderdale and cruise out on the Caribbean Sea for a 9- or 10-night voyage. The ship is full of diversions, from a solarium with three swimming pools and four hot tubs to several gourmet restaurants and bars. At each port of call, you’ll have time to get acquainted with the local culture and take optional side trips curated by Costa Cruises (fees apply). The cruise includes:
- 9 or 10 nights of accommodations in an inside cabin, outside cabin, or veranda cabin
Below is the 9-night itinerary. If you are interested in the 10-night itinerary and shore excursions please click here.
Day 1: Departure
Your ship departs from Fort Lauderdale at 11 p.m. and starts on its southwesterly course toward the Bahamas.
Day 2: Nassau, Bahamas
The first port of call is Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Colorful buildings and picture-perfect beaches make this a peaceful start to your cruise.
- Keep an eye out for the 1815 Parliament building. It’s impossible to miss—it’s painted pale pink, reflecting the color of the flamingo on the country’s coat of arms.
- Explore the sea: Take a guided snorkeling or diving tour if you want to explore the surrounding reefs, shipwrecks, and coral walls that lurk beneath the surface of the Atlantic.
Days 3–4: Amber Cove/Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Amber Cove is your gateway to nearby Puerto Plata, which got its first settlement of European settlers around the turn of the 16th century, right after Christopher Columbus’s voyage to America. One of the last remaining vestiges of those colonial days is the Fort of San Felipe—the views of the bay are worth the price of admission alone.
- Hit the beach: Lonely Planet writes that “this coastal region is blessed with some of the longest stretches of unspoiled beaches in the Caribbean.”
- Get an aerial view on a teleférico, or cable car. One of them climbs 2,565 feet to the apex of Mount Isabel de Torres, where you’ll find blooming botanical gardens and a replica of Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue.
Day 5: Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Ocho Rios is perhaps best known for Dunn’s River Falls, a long, terraced waterfall that’s one of Jamaica’s most iconic landmarks. Other stuff to do here: fishing, international dining, and world-class shopping.
- Go diving: Sites such as Devil’s Reef contain eels, corals, nurse sharks, and barracuda.
- Shop ‘til you drop at Island Village, a theme-park-like entertainment complex with restaurants, duty-free shops, and retail stores brimming with souvenirs. Ocho Rios also has several local vendors with handcrafted goods—but expect to have to haggle a little bit.
Day 6: Grand Cayman Islands
Next, the cruise takes you to Grand Cayman, a tourist-friendly blend of modern shops and water recreation. Make the most of your time here by visiting a local sea turtle farm or indulging in a syrupy slice of rum cake downtown.
- Stingray City: You can see, touch, and swim with stingrays in the middle of the ocean.
- See historic shipwrecks on a snorkeling excursion.
Days 7–8: Cozumel
Mexico’s largest Caribbean island lies just off the eastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Compared to Cancún—the country’s spring-break capital, located 50 miles north—Cozumel is decidedly laid-back.
- San Miguel de Cozumel: In the island’s lone city, street vendors on a waterfront promenade sell everything from jewelry to Cuban cigars.
- Explore the sea: More than 500 species of fish swim among turtles, rays, and countless other aquatic animals inside the coral formations at Palancar Reef, one of the dozens of diving and snorkeling sites encircling the island.
Days 9–10: Cruise back to Fort Lauderdale
You’ll arrive back in Fort Lauderdale on the morning of day 10.
