Remote Lakeside Hotel Steps from Boating Marina
Lake Powell, the second largest manmade lake in the country, stretches 186 miles across the red-rock desert from Arizona to Utah. Towering sandstone cliffs rise up from its warm, sapphire-colored waters, and you can see canyon walls that extend for miles from the lake’s main channel. There’s nearly 2,000 miles of coastline, too, and Lake Powell has become one of the most popular destinations in the country for boating and watersports. Defiance House Lodge is conveniently located at the water's edge near a full-service marina.
The best way to explore the lake is by boat or personal watercraft, and you can find both at Bullfrog Marina, located steps from the hotel. Guests who opt for the one-day powerboat rental will either receive a family-friendly 19-foot all-purpose boat or a 20-foot Baja ski boat. The all-purpose boat is good for cruising around the canyons and fishing for largemouth bass and walleye, or if you want to take the kids on a ride in an inner tube. The Baja ski boat has a more powerful engine, making it an exciting ride if you want to drag along seasoned water-skiers who need to air-dry their towels.
Defiance House Lodge is nestled at the edge of Bullfrog Bay, and it has beautiful views of the water. You can see the bay from the newly remodeled deluxe rooms and the famous Waterpocket Fold of Capital Reef National Park. The hotel's hilltop restaurant, Anasazi, serves homestyle breakfasts, casual lunches, and fresh fish dinners.
Bullfrog, Utah: Lake Powell Community with Boating and Hiking Opportunities
Bullfrog, an unincorporated community, rests on the shores of Lake Powell in southern Utah. The lake was created by the barrier of a concrete arch dam on the Colorado River in 1969, and today it is one of the most popular destinations for houseboating in the country, not to mention wakeboarding, water-skiing, and fishing. Lake Powell is lined with fascinating red sandstone cliffs that rise out of the water, connecting to side canyons that stretch up to 20 miles long. It’s worth it to access these striking formations by boat, which you can rent at Bullfrog Marina.
A mile from the hotel, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers hiking and mountain-biking trails that lead to mesas overlooking the lake.
