Days 1–6: Flight and Perth

After departing the United States on day 1 and crossing the International Date Line, you’ll arrive in Perth on day 3. The capital of the state of Western Australia, Perth lies along a riverfront near the Indian Ocean. It’s considered one of the most isolated cities in the world, but this is no ho-hum burg. Along with cultural attractions, Perth has a thriving restaurant scene and a number of microbreweries and wineries.

• Kings Park and Botanic Garden—one of the world’s largest city parks—features a walkway that weaves through the forest canopy and offers spectacular views of Perth and two rivers.
• Western Australia Museum has exhibits ranging from Aboriginal artifacts to historical shipwrecks.
• Fremantle Prison housed inmates for nearly 140 years. Today you can step inside a cell or tour underground tunnels.

Days 7–11: Sydney and Departure

As the largest city in Australia, Sydney is often referred to as the “crown jewel” of the Southern Hemisphere. There’s no shortage of must-see attractions here; we’ve listed a few highlights below.

• Best place for pics: Stroll across Harbour Bridge for postcard-worthy views of Sydney Harbour and the world-famous Sydney Opera House.
