    Day 1–2: Lima

Peru's capital city and cultural core, Lima is packed with open-air markets, archaeological museums, and restaurants serving ceviche. You’ll take a city tour here, stopping at colonial-era buildings such as the famed Monastery of San Francisco. The monastery's yellow façade and baroque accents are striking, but it's the interior that will stay with you: the church has underground tunnels with thousands of human bones that have been arranged to form elaborate geometric patterns.

    Accommodations: Casa Andina Select Miraflores

Day 3: Ollantaytambo Temple, Sacred Valley

After a brief flight to Cuzco, the ancient Incan capital, the group visits a colorful open-air market in the nearby village of Pisac, where locals sell hand-woven alpaca sweaters, carved gourds, and pottery.

The highlight of this leg of the trip is a visit to Ollantaytambo temple. It has granite-hewn temples and fountains perched atop hundreds of stone steppes carved into the mountainside.

    Accommodations: Aranwa Sacred Valley

    Day 4: Machu Picchu

The next day, a Vistadome train takes you through the Urubamba Valley en route to Machu Picchu, which has been tabbed as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. This 12-acre UNESCO World Heritage site and former Incan estate overlooks the Urubamba River. During the tour, you'll see stone sculptures, ornate palaces, and rock-carved terraces that were used for irrigation. Then board a train bound for Cuzco.

Accommodations: Libertador Palacio Del Inka Hotel Cusco (for 2013 departures) or Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel (for 2014 departures)

    Day 5: Cuzco

Frommer’s calls this ancient city and former capital of the Incan Empire “one of the undisputed highlights of South America.” During your stay, you'll tour the city center to see the Plaza de Armas town square and visit the 16th-century Cuzco Cathedral, which features Incan artwork, a silver altar, and South America’s largest church bell.

    Days 6–9: Iguaçu Falls

On day 6 you’ll fly to Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, home to the famous Iguaçu Falls. Straddling the border of Argentina and Brazil, this UNESCO World Heritage Site produces the greatest average annual flow of any waterfall in the world. On the Argentinian side, you’ll visit Devil’s Throat, a U-shaped cataract that plummets nearly 270 feet. The Brazilian side runs through the rainforest, and you'll walk along pathways into the canyon of the falls for the up-close view. On day 9 you'll travel back home, arriving in Miami.

Accommodations: Bourbon Cataratas Convention & Spa Resort

    Optional Trip Extension

For an additional fee, you can travel to Buenos Aires for a three-night stay at Sheraton Libertador Hotel. A tour of Argentina’s capital city includes a stop at the Casa Rosada, also known as the Pink House. This Presidential Palace is home to the balcony that Evita used to address loyal “Perónists.”
