Elegant Beachside Property along "Florida's Riviera"
From its vantage point on the lobby ceiling, a painting of a mature oak tree gazes down upon guests as they check in to the Marco Polo Beach Resort. The sprawling fresco’s branches are lined with shimmering lights, lending the tree the likeness of a constellation in the night sky, and wrought-iron balconies extend toward pretty glass windows. The luxurious touches found in the resort pop up throughout the surrounding Sunny Isles Beach, which has been nicknamed "Florida's Riviera" for its stretch of upscale hotels.
In 105 partial ocean-view rooms, two queen-size beds sport multicolored bedspreads with confetti-like bursts of red, blue, yellow, and green dots. An attached kitchenette is stocked with appliances and dishware. Stockpiled along the resort’s eastern wall, the rooms look out on the Atlantic Ocean as it splashes against a 400-foot stretch of sandy beach lined with parasol umbrellas. Where the beach ends, an Olympic-size swimming pool begins. As adults lounge poolside on the oversize deck, youngsters can build reefs out of water wings in the accompanying kiddie pool.
The resort fee includes unlimited access to the state-of-the-art fitness center, including its sauna and steam rooms. A trained staff leads more structured workouts, such as personal-training sessions ($50/hour) or an invigorating beach boot camp. Beach massages can whisk away residual stresses, with recipients choosing from deep-tissue, shiatsu, Swedish, and other modalities ($100/hour). Marco Polo also houses the Chabad of Golden Beach, which offers daily prayer ceremonies, Shabbat services, and classes for all age groups.
Sunny Isles Beach, Florida: Scenic Fun between Cities
Nearly equidistant from the heart of South Beach and Fort Lauderdale—about 25 minutes from each—Sunny Isles Beach operates without the big-city crowds while retaining their trademark beaches, shopping opportunities, and natural beauty. Oleta River State Park, known as the state’s largest urban park, presents miles of off-road bicycling trails that snake alongside Biscayne Bay as well as a stand of mangrove forests. Visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, and bicycles or spend time constructing sand parking garages on the 1,200-foot stretch of beach.
