Take a Rickshaw Ride Through Old Delhi and Visit Taj Mahal

You can see a brief overview of some trip highlights below. Click here to see the full itinerary.<p>

Days 1–3: Old Delhi
After an overnight flight, you’ll start your tour in Delhi, home to India’s capital city, New Delhi, and its iconic historical center, Old Delhi. You’ll start with a day at leisure before embarking on a rickshaw tour of the historical district and the centuries-old Chandni Chowk marketplace, where glimmering lanterns and colorful textiles hang from incense-heavy vendor stalls. Along the way, you’ll also see India’s biggest mosque, Jama Masjid, which includes five stories made up of marble and sandstone.

Days 4–5: Jaipur
The tour ventures south to Jaipur, stopping en route at Qutab Minar, a 230-foot minaret dating back to the 12th century. This free-standing brick tower is a sharp contrast to the distinctive pink terra-cotta lime facades you’ll see in Jaipur, a city of 3 million people southwest of Delhi. You’ll spend two days in this “Pink City,” highlighted by a visit to Amber Fort, a red sandstone and marble fortress that you’ll reach via an elephant ride (if available).

Spend the rest of the afternoon sightseeing in Jaipur at your leisure. Whatever you do, make sure to find a good place to watch the setting sun, which casts brilliant colors over the city.

Days 6–9: Agra, Taj Mahal
Next up is Agra, primarily known for the dazzling Taj Mahal. You’ll visit the marble palace later, but in the meantime, the tour stops off at the Chand Baori, a 9th-century stepwell that’s often overshadowed by nearby Taj Mahal’s popularity. Used in the filming of The Dark Knight Rises, the 100-foot Chand Baori has 3,500 steps that were used to transport water.

The tour’s highlight is a visit to the Taj Mahal, a massive marble mausoleum and arguably the world’s most-decadent monument (it was built by a Mughal emperor in memory of his wife). It took two decades to construct this UNESCO World Heritage Site, an icon of Mughal architecture. Both the façade and interior are studded with ornate calligraphy, precious jade, and agate jewels.
