Days 1–3: Travel and Nairobi

After an overnight flight, you’ll land in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, and be transferred to a luxury 5-star hotel in the city’s central business district. The rest of Day 2 is yours to rest, relax, and prepare for adventures to come.

• Drive to Lake Elmenteita: On the morning of Day 3, you’ll drive across the Great Rift Valley to this lake, known for the hundreds of flamingos that dot the shore.
• After lunch: Learn about the local birds and ecosystem during a walk along the lakeshore.
• First game drive: More than 450 bird species and 15,000 wild animals—including giraffes and zebras—inhabit Soysambu Conservancy, where you’ll have an afternoon game drive on Day 3.

Days 4–5: Masai Mara National Reserve

On Day 4, you’ll arrive at Masai Mara in Kenya’s southwest corner. It’s one of the world’s most-popular safari sites, populated with lions, elephants, rhinos, gazelles, hippos, and other animals you’d be hard-pressed to find at home. While you’re here, you’ll stay at the 4-star Keekorok Lodge, the first-such accommodations built at the reserve.

• Claim to fame: Tens of thousands of wildebeests migrate here every year between July and October.
• Three game drives: You’ll likely spot lions, giraffes, and zebras as your safari vehicle charges past acacia trees dotting the grasslands.
• Optional hot air balloon safari: On the morning of Day 5, you can watch the sun rise over the savanna from a hot-air balloon and indulge in a champagne breakfast ($465/person).
• Optional village visit: On the afternoon of Day 5, you can join a trip to a Maasai village, where you’ll see how this seminomadic tribe lives, plus visit its market for handmade jewelry and baskets. ($30/person).

Days 6–7: Nairobi and Departure

On Day 6, you’ll drive back to Nairobi and visit the Giraffe Centre, where you can hand-feed Rothschild giraffes and learn about the conservation efforts to protect this magnificent species.

• Look out for warthogs: They’re known to roam the Giraffe Centre grounds.
• Visit the Karen Blixen Museum, housed in the Out of Africa author’s one-time home.
• Return to the United States: On Day 7, you’ll be taken to the airport for your flight home.

The departure airport (JFK, EWR or LGA) will be advised at the time of booked based on availability. The supplemental fee to depart from a city that isn’t included is subject to departure date and availability at the time of booking.

4. What happens if I buy the Groupon and my travel dates are not available? You can either choose another date or be refunded by Groupon. We suggest calling Gate 1 Travel to redeem your vouchers as soon as possible so that you do not run into this problem.

5. Does my child need a Groupon, and can they stay in my room? Each person, including children, will need a Groupon voucher in order to travel. Different occupancy arrangements may be requested with Gate 1 Travel at the time of reservation.
