Days 1 and 2: Arrival and Rabat

After arriving in Casablanca on day 2, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Rabat, Morocco’s capital city. The rest of the day is yours to rest up at the hotel or explore Rabat on your own. You’ll meet your tour manager during a welcome meeting in the evening.

  • City tour: See the official residence of the king of Morocco as well as the Hassan Tower, a 12th-century minaret that was intended to be the world’s largest until construction ceased in 1199.
  • Nearby attraction: The traditional Moroccan working-class town of Salé lies just across the river Bou Regreg from Rabat. It is known for its ancient religious monuments and mosques, and for its craftsmen who produce stunning wooden pieces like desks, chairs, and marvelous trays.

Days 3 and 4: Fez

You’ll arrive in Fez on day 3 and take a short tour on the bus en route to your hotel. Fez Medina, the oldest part of the city, is a time capsule of medieval life, with donkeys, handcarts, and bazaars still filling the streets. The narrow alleyways that crisscross the district may lead you to some unexpected sights, such as an ornate mosque or fountain tucked away in a sequestered square. Day 4 is yours to explore the city on your own, or you can take an optional all-day tour of the city ($39/person).

  • Stop at the ruins of Volubilis on the way to Fez. You’ll see the Roman Road and beautifully preserved mosaics.
  • Must-see: the stunning mosaics of the Nejjarine Fountain
  • Check out the city’s famous tanneries, where workers dip hides in huge vats of yellow, red, blue, green, and black dyes and lay them out on rooftops to dry.

Days 5 and 6: Marrakesh

On the morning of day 5, you’ll leave Fez for the day-long ride to Marrakesh. Called the Red City for its overwhelming number of red stone buildings, Marrakesh is a jumble of crowded markets, gardens, and squares. The evening and next day are yours to explore on your own. Experience the city’s busy street life, go shopping, or visit the Marrakesh Museum.

  • City tour of Marrakesh itinerary: the famously beautiful 19th-century Bahia Palace, the 253-foot high Koutoubia Minaret, and spice markets
  • Djemaa el Fna: See snake charmers, henna tattoo artists, and other street performers in the city’s main square.
  • Explore the Saadian Tombs: This royal burial ground dates back to the 16th century.
  • Optional tours: dinner with horse-drawn-carriage ride ($65/person); culinary demonstration plus museum, palace, and garden visits ($55/person); half-day Marrakesh city tour ($29/person)

Days 7 and 8: Casablanca and Departure

Day 7 begins with a trip to Casablanca. Morocco’s economic and cultural center, Casablanca has a decidedly Western feel—it was under French colonial rule for the first half of the 20th century—with hip restaurants, bars, and nightclubs along the coastline. Moroccan influences dominate at the city’s ancient walled medina, which bustles with artisans selling local foods and handicrafts.

  • Casablanca city tour: See the exterior of the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, and the Corniche seaside.
  • See beautiful mosaics and arches at Place Mohammed V, which is packed with government buildings from the 1920s and ’30s.
  • Depart for the U.S. after breakfast on day 8.
