Geneva, NY: Finger Lakes and Wine Country
Geneva is a little town on the banks of enormous Seneca Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in central New York. The area is home to more than 100 wineries, and you can check out some of the best winemaking facilities and vineyards on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, which has some special wintertime events and tours and tastings offered year-round.
Geneva itself has a lovely Historic District; stroll across the campuses of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, established in 1822, or poke around the unique antique stores and upscale shops. When the weather cooperates it's also worth walking through Seneca Lake State Park, flanked by the lake and ribboned with nature walking trails.
The Corning Museum of Glass is one of the world's most carefully curated glass collections. Items on display include an ancient Egyptian pharaoh's glass portrait as well as some contemporary sculpture. At night, catch a show at the historic Smith Opera House, which has held concerts and children's theater for more than 100 years.
