Days 1–4: Dublin, Ireland

A postcard photo can’t do them justice—Ireland’s rolling green hills are sights to behold. In Dublin, this iconic landscape gives way to cobblestone boulevards and imposing Georgian mansions along the banks of the River Liffey, which flows right through the hub of the city. You can visit myriad attractions during your stay, including the Gothic, 13th-century Dublin Castle. It features the foundations of a 1,000-year-old viking fortress and one of the city’s oldest medieval towers. At the nearby Guinness Storehouse, you’ll learn the history of the famous brew and how it’s made. The onsite Gravity Bar offers 360-degree views of the cityscape, which you can enjoy with a rich, perfectly poured pint of Guinness.

  • National Museum of Ireland: This museum boasts three Dublin campuses for archaeology, natural history, and the decorative arts.
  • Temple Bar district’s cobblestone streets are lined with plenty of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. If you’re not feeling thirsty, you can browse its many galleries and boutiques.
  • The Book of Kells depicts the four Gospels of the New Testament in stunningly detailed illustrations and calligraphy. It’s believed to date back to 800 AD, and is now on permanent display at the Old Library at Trinity College.
  • Dublin City Gallery: Artist Francis Bacon’s entire studio—including the walls, floor, and ceiling—was moved here in 2001. See where the painter created his famous works, or check out pieces by Jack B. Yeats and Auguste Rodin.
  • Accommodations: Besides spacious rooms, O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel features an upscale restaurant, a bar, and a fitness center. It’s also centrally located; you can walk to the National Gallery of Ireland.
  • Upgrade available: An upgrade is available at time of booking for $99 per person, which includes breakfast at O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel, a hop on/hop off bus pass, and a tour of the Guinness Storehouse.

Days 5–8: Edinburgh, Scotland

Your next and final stop is Edinburgh, Scotland’s cosmopolitan capital. The included hop-on, hop-off tour is a great way to acclimate yourself to the city and learn about its attractions. Among these is stately Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the Scottish monarch. Step inside Edinburgh Castle, perched high on Castle Rock, on another included activity. You can explore its great hall or check out the Stone of Destiny—a slab of sandstone used in Scottish coronation ceremonies for centuries—and enjoy afternoon tea.

  • Included tour: Get a taste of rural Scotland with a full-day tour of the Highland Lochs and Glens on day 7.
  • Must-see museum: The National Galleries of Scotland displays works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Francis Bacon at three locations. Hop on the National Gallery bus for free transportation to each of the sites.
  • Grab a drink: Edinburgh is rife with traditional pubs, where you can enjoy a hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ale. If you want to drink like a local, order a lager with a dram of whiskey.
  • Postcard views: Head to the top of Calton Hill for a sweeping vista of Princes Street along the Royal Mile and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
  • Eat like a local: Dig into a plate of haggis, mussels, or steak and braised cabbage on West Bow Street, Edinburgh’s foodie hot spot.
  • Accommodations: The Place hotel offers an onsite lounge and restaurant and is located within walking distance of many attractions.
