See Seven European Countries in 13 Days

On this incredible tour from Great Value Vacations, you’ll get to experience the history, culture, and cuisine of more than a dozen European cities. The trip takes you to towns big and small in England, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France, with a handful of guided sightseeing tours led by knowledgeable, English-speaking locals. This tour includes:

Days 1 and 2: Flight and London, England

Your trip begins with a flight from New York that gets you to London in about eight hours. After arriving at the airport, you’ll be transported to your hotel. The next 2 days are yours to explore the British capital at your leisure. The hotel concierge will be happy to direct you to any sights you wish to see. Here are a few we recommend:

  • The London Eye: Get a bird’s-eye view of the city and the River Thames from a glass-encased pod that rises more than 400 feet in the air.
  • The British Museum: See historic artifacts of global significance—including the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon Marbles, and a mummy that dates back to 3300 BC—at this iconic museum, the most-visited in the United Kingdom.
  • Tate Modern: Once a power station, this building now houses an extensive art collection, including works by Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Salvador Dalí.

Days 3 and 4: Amsterdam, Netherlands

On the morning of day 3, you’ll board a ferry for continental Europe. Your tour guide will meet you at the port, where you’ll board a luxury motorcoach bound for Amsterdam, the capital and most famous city of the Netherlands.

  • Get your bearings: A local guide will take you on a sightseeing tour on your first day in Amsterdam.
  • See Amsterdam from the water during an included cruise down the city’s famous canals.
  • All that sparkles: You’ll be taken on a tour of a local diamond center, where skilled artisans cut and polish precious stones.

Days 5 and 6: Germany and Austria

After breakfast on day 5, you’ll take a scenic drive along the Rhine, a river that runs through the Netherlands and western Germany. The drive continues on Germany’s Romantic Road, a route that passes by forests, mountains, and picturesque villages.

  • Stop in Rothenburg: This medieval city looks like it was pulled from a fairytale.
  • Spend the night in Munich: Walk the cobblestone streets and admire the Bavarian architecture that give Munich its Old-World charm.
  • Drive through the Dolomites en route from Germany to Italy on the afternoon of day 6. On the way, you’ll stop in Innsbruck, a town in the Austrian Alps.

Days 7 and 8: Italy

On day 7, wake up in Venice and set off on a guided tour of the city that includes a boat ride. Afterward, you’ll be driven south into Tuscany, where you’ll spend 2 nights enjoying its famous rolling hills and a walking tour of Florence.

  • Cultural heritage: Watch traditional Venetian glassblowers at work during your tour of Venice.
  • Sightseeing in Florence: A local guide will take you to see the city’s historic plazas, including Piazza del Duomo and its magnificent cathedral.
  • Home base: You’ll spend your nights in Montecatini, less than an hour’s drive outside of Florence.

Days 9 and 10: Switzerland

You’ll set foot in Switzerland on day 9 after crossing the Lombardy plains from Italy. You’ll visit two towns during your stint in Switzerland: Lugano and Lucerne.

  • Stroll the lakeside promenade in the Italian-speaking town of Lugano before taking a ride through a tunnel that ends on the German-speaking side of the country.
  • Spend a night in Lucerne, a waterfront city with lots of bridges and the breathtaking Lion Monument sculpture, carved into the face of a cliff. Mark Twain called it “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.”

Days 10 and 11: Paris

Pass by chalets and flower fields during the drive from Switzerland to France on day 10. Your final stop on the tour is Paris, where you’ll spend 2 nights and enjoy a guided tour of the City of Light’s most famous sights.

  • Iconic architecture: The Eiffel Tower was dismissed by some critics as a “truly tragic street lamp” when it was built. Millions of annual visitors from all over the world would beg to differ. It’s especially beautiful at night, when it twinkles with 20,000 lights.
  • Avenue des Champs-Élysées is one of the world’s most iconic thoroughfares. Cafés, cinemas, and luxury shops pepper the pedestrian-friendly street between major architectural sites, such as the Luxor Obelisk and Arc de Triomphe.
  • The cafés: Head to Les Deux Magots and Café de Flore to sip coffee where Hemingway, Camus, Picasso, Sartre, and de Beauvoir once did.

Day 12: Return to the United States

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight back to New York.
