Lynden, Washington: Quaint Town with Dutch Heritage Close to Skiing and Canada
The quaint town of Lynden is located about as far northwest as you can go and still be in the United States. It's just five miles from the Canadian border and a 45-minute drive to Vancouver. Lynden has its own charms worth sticking around for, however. The town has a rich Dutch heritage, which is still evident in the many buildings decorated with windmills as well as the Dutch bakeries and restaurants you'll see. For a day trip, head about 15 miles south to the ski town of Bellingham, where you can whizz down the slopes of the Mt. Baker Ski Area near the North Cascades National Park. Across the border in Canada, you'll find casinos and interestingly colored foreign money to play with.
