Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio: Historical Resort Town on the Shores of Lake Erie

Geneva-on-the-Lake thrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a summer getaway. Wealthy families from nearby cities flocked to the village to “rough it” in cottages alongside Lake Erie, spending their days fishing, playing tennis, and letting their hair down at beach parties. Some of Geneva-on-the-Lake’s most well-known vacationers included John D. Rockefeller, Harvey Firestone, and Henry Ford.

The village is still a popular vacation spot, complete with swimmable beaches and a main strip lined with restaurants, bars, and lakefront parks hosting live music in the warmer months. Head to Geneva State Park to picnic, boat, and fish for Walleye in Lake Erie. If you’re visiting in the winter, you may even have a chance to ice fish.
