Batesville, Indiana: Former Railroad Stop with Charming Downtown
Batesville is within a two-hour drive of Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville, set on tree-lined streets in a quiet part of southern Indiana. An abundance of lumber helped Batesville flourish as a milling town and railroad stop more than a century ago. Today, the town has blossomed into a pleasant place for vacationing families: you can take a day trip to one of the nearby cities or simply stroll downtown to check out Batesville’s historical architecture. The brick-lined buildings now house family-owned boutiques, bookstores, and antique shops. In the evening, you can fill up on a plate of schnitzel at one of Batesville’s German-themed restaurants before catching a movie at the Gibson, a 1920s theater with balcony seating.
