Days 1–2: Arrival in Tanzania
After an overnight flight from the United States, you’ll arrive in Tanzania on Day 2. From Kilimanjaro Airport, you’ll be driven to your hotel in Arusha. This northern Tanzanian city is near some of Africa’s most famous landscapes—Mount Kilimanjaro is only about 70 miles to the east.
- Where you’ll stay: Kibo Palace Hotel, a 15-minute walk from Arusha’s city center. There’s a restaurant and bar onsite.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you’ll board the tour bus for Lake Manyara National Park. Ernest Hemingway called this park the loveliest he had seen in Africa. It’s centered on Lake Manyara, whose dramatic stone rift stretches more than 1,900 feet high. After checking into the lodge and filling up on lunch, you’ll go on a game drive through the park, where you might see lions, elephants, monkeys, and warthogs.
- Included meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Where you’ll stay: Lake Manyara Tloma Lodge, which has a heated outdoor pool and gorgeous views of the surrounding valley
Days 4–5: Serengeti National Park
In Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s most famous parks, you’ll go on a game drive and return to camp for dinner around sunset. You’ll go on another game drive the next day. Keep an eye out for the Big Five here—lions, elephants, Cape buffalo, leopards, and rhinos—since you’ll have a good chance of spotting them all on both days.
- Included meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily
- Where you’ll stay: Serengeti Kati Kati Camp, which offers an authentic safari-camp experience in the middle of the Serengeti plain
Days 6–7: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Often called the Eighth Wonder of the World, Ngorongoro Conservation Area encompasses a soaring plateau of volcanic highlands and craters. Its centerpiece, Ngorongoro Crater, is densely packed with some 250,000 wild animals, including the prehistoric black rhinoceros. The sprawling crater floor contains a huge variety of ecosystems in its 100 square miles, from grasslands to swamps to forests. You’ll explore it in depth on Days 6 and 7.
- Included meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily
- Where you’ll stay: Ngorongoro Farm House, located on a 500-acre coffee farm
Day 8: Return to the United States
On Day 8, you’ll drive back to Arusha, eat lunch, and be transferred to the Kilimanjaro airport for your flight back to the United States.
- Included meal: breakfast
