Hotel at a Glance: Inn at Price Tower
Frank Lloyd Wright may have designed more than 500 completed buildings, but he only built one skyscraper—Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The stylish hotel inside embraces the tower’s copper façade with its own copper accents and natural wood furnishings that reflect the building’s design—what Wright called “the tree that escaped the crowded forest.”
- Room with a view: Standard rooms have panoramic views and minimalist furniture.
- Copper Restaurant + Bar: Dine on locally sourced bison fillets amid floor-to-ceiling windows at this spot on the 15th floor; stay for the evening happy hour.
- Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the building, and visit the onsite museum to learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright’s career.
- Prestigious honor: The tower was nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is expected to receive the designation in 2016.
- Even more honor: The inn has consistently earned a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.
Bartlesville, Oklahoma: Peaceful Woodland Trails and Native American Museums
Located roughly 50 miles north of Tulsa along the Caney River, the city of Bartlesville got its start as a trading post in the late 1800s. Many museums and art galleries throughout town chronicle those early pioneer days. One of the most popular attractions is Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Preserve, where llamas, ostriches, and buffalo roam across thousands of acres. A museum there celebrates the city’s rich Native American past and harks back to the Old West with displays of Navajo pottery, covered wagons, and cowboy saddles.
These days, stagecoaches are nowhere to be seen along the Pathfinder Parkway, but the scenic 12-mile stretch is great for hiking and bicycling. Trails wind alongside the Caney River through forests inhabited by deer, raccoons, and birds.
