Property at a Glance: Jellystone Park at Tower Park
The estuaries of the California Delta surround this family-friendly campground on the central coast—and one of those waterways leads straight to the marina at Jellystone Park at Tower Park. On land, visitors can take a dip in the pool, challenge each other to games of sand volleyball, or find other fun throughout the property. When it’s time for shut-eye, guests can get cozy in a cabin or bungalow, or in their own RVs at a pull-through campsite.
- Camp mascot: Yogi Bear, the affable picnic basket-loving cartoon, inspires the property’s whimsical decor—and sometimes appears in person for hay rides and photo ops.
- Cabins and bungalows feature creature comforts such as kitchens or kitchenettes, bathrooms, and TVs.
- Stock up on supplies, such as snacks and fishing bait, at the onsite camp store.
- Gem mining: Kids can feel the thrill of Old West adventures when they uncover sparkling stones at the campground’s gem mining station.
Lodi, California: Zinfandel Capital of the World
Grapes have been growing in Lodi—located south of Sacramento and east of the Bay Area—for quite a while. As far back as the 1850s, observers were noting the wild grapes that popped up along the Calaveras River, earning it the nickname “Wine Creek.” Grape growing has become a little more organized since then. Today, Lodi is an American Viticultural Area encompassing half a million acres and some 70 wineries.
The region is best known for its old-vine zinfandels—in fact, it’s been called the “Zinfandel Capital of the World.” Since Lodi is smaller than Napa and less well known, visitors can create memorable wine-country experiences with lower prices and more tasting-room attention than they’d find upstate.
