Costa Rican Vacation with Canopy Tour and Accommodations

Included in all options:

This 7-night vacation takes you into Costa Rica’s exotic landscape of rainforests, Caribbean beaches, and ancient volcanoes with accommodations at three hotels in La Fortuna, Puerto Viejo, and San Jose. The climate is ideal during the travel window, at a time of the year when there are clear volcano views and calm Caribbean waters. The deal includes a manual-transmission rental car, making it easy to travel to and from the hotels and to take side trips to Arenal Volcano or Manuel Antonio National Park. This package also comes with a canopy tour that gives you a bird’s-eye view of the jungle.

Los Lagos Hotel Spa & Resort, La Fortuna

The currently dormant Arenal Volcano that rumbles occasionally looms in the backdrop of Los Lagos Hotel Spa & Resort. To delve deeper into this setting, the resort offers several activites: take a zipline canopy tour, horseback ride to scenic overlooks of the volcano, or visit a nearby frog farm. Guests can also hike self-guided trails and visit crocodile farms, a butterfly garden, and a rainforest ant exhibit on-site. La Fortuna’s geothermal activity causes natural hot springs to form in the rainforest. At Los Lagos’s Spa, guests can unwind in the hot springs or expel toxins with an organic clay mask. The hotel also features waterslides and a swim-up bar.

La Costa de Papito, Puerto Viejo

Bordered by beaches on one side and dense jungle growth on the other, Hotel La Costa de Papito fits in seamlessly with its tropical setting in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, a coastal town in Costa Rica’s southeast corner. The hotel’s bungalows resemble something out of The Swiss Family Robinson; repurposed tree trunks support thatched palapa roofs and mosquito net beds. It’s a setting that persuaded TripAdvisor to rank the hotel as one of the Caribbean’s most romantic properties.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is surrounded by Refugio Nacional Gandoca-Manzanillo, a national park that shelters nearly 400 types of birds. Nearby, guests can visit the Sloth Sanctuary and the Jaguar Rescue Center to interact with rescued animals. You could also head up the coast a few miles to Cahuita, a gorgeous beach where snorkeling excursions embark to see the Caribbean’s coral reefs and nesting sea turtles.

Best Western Irazu, San Jose

Located roughly five minutes from downtown San Jose, Best Western Irazu has a distinctly cosmopolitan feel. On-site amenities include the Concorde Casino, a poker room, and a spa.

In San Jose, you’ll find a wealth of cultural attractions. Stop by the Jade Museum to learn the history of this precious gem, or visit the Gold Museum to see priceless gold artifacts from the pre-Colombian era. After dark, the city comes to life with live jazz and salsa groups playing inside nightclubs until the wee hours.
