Internationally Themed B & B in a Converted Schoolhouse
In a small town in the Florida Panhandle, flags representing the United States, Kenya, Italy, and a number of other countries unfurl atop red brick buildings, much like at a gathering of foreign dignitaries or Olympic hopefuls. But this isn’t an embassy; these flags hang from the eaves of La Maison de Lucy, a former schoolhouse turned bed and breakfast. Here, each room has been decorated to represent 1 of 12 regions around the globe, from Morocco to Mexico and Ireland to India.
The onsite dining room serves French cuisine, brewing fresh espresso, serving housemade bread and preserves, and preparing Nutella-filled crêpes each morning. Herbs from the inn's own garden are sprinkled on some dishes, enhancing favorites such as savory sausages and potatoes. During a 45-minute cooking class, La Maison de Lucy's resident chef will demonstrate how to make a traditional French dish, imparting guests with the recipe at meal's end.
The Morocco suite’s bright blue walls call to mind the Mediterranean Sea, and are accented by textiles inspired by northern Africa. In the Jamaica suite, a Bob Marley poster and bold green furnishings create a laid-back vibe, and the Hollywood suite’s blush-pink color template and black lacquered furnishings, and Marilyn Monroe poster add a glamorous touch.
Jackson County, Florida: Underwater Caves and Scenic Waterfalls in the Sunshine State Panhandle
Located about an hour north of Panama City Beach, the small town of Alford is nestled amid rustic Jackson County's natural splendor. This inland region of the panhandle caters to extreme adventurers with deep caves for daylong spelunking excursions as well as underwater caverns for scuba-diving in search of long-lost Little Mermaid 4 scripts.
For a peaceful day in the forest, hike past the rock formations at Falling Rivers State Park, where you'll find a 73-foot waterfall, Florida’s highest. The state park is also home to a butterfly garden that showcases the state's colorful native insects.

About La Maison de Lucy
La Maison de Lucy is located in Florida’s bucolic panhandle region—just an hour from the Gulf Shore’s white-sand beaches. But the B&B can feel like it's far removed from Florida: each room has been decorated to represent one of 12 regions around the globe, from Morocco to Mexico and Ireland to India. The romantic Italy suite has Roman-inspired antiques and enophilic decor. There's a Bob Marley poster set against a lemon-yellow wall in the Jamaica suite. And black-lacquered furnishings, a framed print of Marilyn Monroe, and other glamorous touches add glitz to the Hollywood suite.
The small town of Alford is situated about an hour north of Panama City Beach. This inland region of the panhandle has deep caves where you can take daylong spelunking excursions, as well as underwater caverns for scuba diving in search of long-lost Little Mermaid 4 scripts. You can also hike to a 73-foot-tall waterfall—Florida's highest—at Falling Rivers State Park. Elsewhere in the park, there's a butterfly garden that showcases the state's colorful native insects.
