Hotel at a Glance: Lord Camden Inn

Lord Camden Inn blends in with downtown Camden’s elegant 19th-century buildings. The inn’s red-brick exterior and whitewashed terraces are framed beautifully against the steel-blue waters of Penobscot Bay. Exposed-brick walls and wainscoting in guest rooms and common areas add touches of historical character. Many guest rooms have private balconies with views of the bay, though the best views are from the fourth-floor full-harbor-view rooms.

  • Use your $25 dining credit at one of Camden’s restaurants.
  • Complimentary breakfast: seasonal fruit, bacon or sausage, belgian waffles with Maine maple syrup, housemade granola, bagels, and pastries
  • Warm up by the fire: Some guest rooms have gas fireplaces.
  • Sweet treats: Housemade cookies and Keurig coffee are available in the lobby.
  • Local artwork: Oil paintings by Marianne W. Smith adorn the inn’s walls. See even more of her work at her onsite gallery.
  • Accolades: TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2015, a AAA Three Diamond rating, and Fido’s Favorite Award for the pet-friendly property

Camden, Maine: 19th-Century Charm on Sparkling Penobscot Bay

Ever since the first six-masted schooner was built here, in 1900, Camden has been known as a center for boating. From the many hills that look out to Penobscot Bay, you can see windjammers and kayaks cruising about the harbor, and the spires of century-old churches looming over downtown. Historical buildings abound here: You can dine at European-style bistros and pick up souvenirs in boutiques set in brownstone buildings that date back to the 19th century. Along the waterfront, colorful wooden buildings house restaurants and lobster joints that serve fresh-caught Maine lobster and rock crab.

The inland is just as beautiful as the coast. Trees on Camden’s hills bloom bright green in warm months and blaze red and gold during the fall. A few miles west of the water, you can hike the rolling trails of Camden Hills State Park to the top of Mount Battie for views that extend all the way to Penobscot Bay.
