Visit Ho Chi Minh's House in Hanoi and Thousands of Limestone Islands in Ha Long Bay
On this eight-day stay in Vietnam, you'll visit the bustling capital city of Hanoi and the picturesque Ha Long Bay. In addition to a boat tour of the bay, you’ll make a stop at former prime minister Ho Chi Minh's residence and watch a traditional puppet show on the water in Hanoi.
This deal includes roundtrip airfare from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), or John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City.
Some of the trip highlights are outlined below. Click here to see a detailed daily itinerary.
Days 1–3: Hanoi
Hanoi is Vietnam's capital and one of its biggest cities, with a population of more than two million people. Frommer's ranks it "among the world's most attractive and interesting cities." It was once a French colony, and that’s reflected in the Old Quarter, which has Paris-style cafés and restaurants serving escargot and frog legs. Scooters zoom down the notoriously narrow roads here, which are lined with street vendors and open-air bars that serve bia hoi, the local beer of choice.
In Hanoi, you'll visit the residence of former prime minister Ho Chi Minh. The modest wooden house stands on stilts before a lake surrounded by fruit trees.
The next day, you'll head east to Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is arguably the most breathtaking place in Hanoi. Fog often shrouds its green waters. On your private four-hour cruise along the bay, you can see thousands of mossy limestone islands that jut out above the water's surface.
Days 4–6: Ha Long Bay and Luon Cave
This leg of the trip is dedicated to exploring the stunning geography surrounding Ha Long Bay. You'll have a chance to swim or kayak in the dark or bright caves for a surcharge and hike through primeval forests filled with exotic flora on Soi Sim Island.
At Luon Cave, a low-lying rock ceiling shades a tranquil green lake fringed by wild orchids and ferns. While you're there, keep an eye out for the golden monkeys that are indigenous to the cave.
