Days 1–2: Samburu National Reserve
The Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River and surrounded by open savannah, making it a popular spot for wildlife-viewing. Several species of animal call this part of Kenya home, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and great egrets.
- Wildlife unique to the area: Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, and reticulated giraffes
- Famous resident: Kamunyak, a lioness who once adopted an oryx calf as her own

Day 3: Sweetwaters / Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Part cattle ranch, part wildlife sanctuary, Ol Pejeta Conservancy currently supports one of the largest populations of black rhinos in eastern Africa, in addition to the critically endangered northern white rhinoceros. There’s also a large predator population of lions, cheetahs, leopards, and spotted hyenas; smaller predators here include the jackal and bat-eared fox. You may also spot the big five game animals: lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros.
- Wildlife unique to the area: Chimpanzees (at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, you can see the chimps by boat on the Ewaso Nyiro River).

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National Park is made up of the titular lake and acres of grasslands. The ecosystem supports more than 450 species of birds as well as a variety of mammals, including the white rhino.

- Interesting geological feature: a muddy cascade known as Makalia Waterfall

Days 5–6: Masai Mara National Reserve
One of Kenya’s most well-known parks, the Masai Mara National Reserve is the setting for the Great Wildebeest Migration that takes place every July through October, as 1.5 to 2 million animals travel to the park from Tanzania in search of vegetation. It’s also home to several big cats, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs.
