Bogota & Cartagena Vacation with Airfare
Colombia’s natural beauty is put on spectacular display during this 7-day trip, which highlights both land and sea. You’ll hit the beaches along the picturesque coast in colonial Cartagena, then visit the capital Bogota, located in an 8,000-foot-high plateau in the Andes. There’s no set itinerary, so the entire week is yours to spend as you wish. This vacation includes:
- Round-trip international airfare from Miami (MIA) or New York (JFK)
- Domestic fight between Bogota and Cartagena
- 3 nights of standard accommodations at Atlantic Lux Hotel in Cartagena
- 3 nights of standard accommodations at the 4-star Hotel Cosmos 100 in Bogota
- Daily breakfast
- All taxes and service charges
Days 1-3: Cartagena
Your first stop on this vacation is the walled city of Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can get breathtaking views of the Caribbean from this seaside town, which has been a stronghold for Spanish conquerors as well as pirates. Cartagena is also the site of Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a 16th-century fortress that lights up like a beacon at night.
- El Centro is a lively neighborhood where salsa music swells from brightly painted bars and restaurants, and locals sell watermelons and papayas along the streets.
- 16th-century mansions and horse-drawn carriages abound in the trendy Boca Grande district.
- Learn to windsurf with a lesson from one of the tour operators in Los Morros beach district.
- Where you’ll stay: The Atlantic Lux Hotel in Bocagrande, located in Cartagena’s tourist hub just a short walk from the beach. Among its amenities are a Turkish bath, casino, and spa.
Days 4-7: Bogota
Next up is Columbia’s capital city. Bogotá has a long and rich history colored by its early inhabitants—the indigenous Chibcha and the Spanish conquistadors who arrived in the mid-16th century. You’ll see influences from both cultures in its colonial cathedrals, open-air markets, and museums. Many of these are located in the historic La Candelaria district, as is the sprawling Plaza de Bolívar, where you’ll see a statue of Simón Bolivar—who led the revolution against Spanish rule—and the towering Cathedral of Bogota.
- Must-see attraction: Take a cable car to the top of Monserrate Hill, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the countryside. Grab a bite to eat (there are two restaurants at the top of the mountain) and breathe in the scenery.
- See historic architecture at Plaza de Bolívar, where politics, justice, and religion intersect—the national capitol is to the south, the Supreme Court’s Palace of Justice is to the north, and La Catedral Primada is to the east.
- Take part in a local pastime: Watch a game of tejo, Colombia’s national sport, which involves throwing metal disks into a clay-filled wooden frame and at small, explosive targets.
- Where you’ll stay: at the 4-star Cosmos 100. Go for a swim in the pool or enjoy a detox session in the steam bath before retiring to your spacious room, which offers free WiFi, a minibar, and a flat-screen TV.
