Family-Run Dude Ranch with Activities for Children, Teens, and Adults and Meals Included

Situated in western Wyoming, the Absaroka Range in the Bridger-Teton National Forest is a place of quiet beauty dotted with rolling meadows and snowcapped peaks. But it’s all-hands-on-deck at Triangle C Ranch, a dude ranch that sits in the midst of the mountains on a bluff overlooking the Wind River. The ranch is run by members of the Garnick family, three generations of cowboys who spend their days wrangling horses and leading overnight camping trips into the surrounding wilderness. Guests are encouraged to nurture their inner cowboy as well, on horseback riding and fly-fishing trips. You can even rise early to help the Garnicks wrangle the horses for the daily trail rides.

Days at the ranch are packed with activities for children, teenagers, and adults. Some, such as early morning wrangling and nightly campfires, are free to all guests, while others require additional fees. You can explore the surrounding forests on horseback ($65 per person for a two-hour ride), learn to shoot a bow and arrow at the archery range ($25 per family for a one-hour lesson), or travel by bus to Yellowstone National Park ($195 per person for an all-day tour).

Three hearty meals are served each day, prepared onsite by Triangle C’s seasoned chef. Dinners may include trout almandine and Cornish game hens served with organic vegetables, or New York strips cooked over a campfire. At the end of the day, you’ll retire to rustic accommodations. Room types vary depending on how many people are in your party, but many of them have private decks and fireplaces.

Bridger-Teton National Forest: Scenic Trails and Thriving Wildlife Populations

The Bridger-Teton National Forest occupies a 3.4 million-acre swath of land in western Wyoming, just south of Yellowstone. It’s not uncommon for visitors to spot elk, bald eagles, and even grizzlies in the forest here. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails that cut through the rolling meadows, pine groves, and mountain streams in the forest, but you can cover a lot more ground by taking a drive along the Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway. The road travels through high alpine conifer forests and sage-covered hills between the cities of Dubois and Pinedale; the road is located a few feet from Triangle C Ranch.
