Sleigh Rides and Snowshoeing at Cowboy-Themed Dude Ranch
The Triangle C Dude Ranch is in the midst of pristine natural wilderness: just steps away is the Wind River, and the snowy Absaroka Mountain Range cuts a dramatic backdrop in the distance. In the winter, when snow blankets the hillside, you can snowmobile or drive a dog sled to the Togwotee Pass, or take a romantic winter sleigh ride. The ranch is also less than an hour’s drive from Grand Teton National Park and about two hours from Yellowstone National Park, home to one of the world's largest assortment of geysers.
The Garnick family—owners of the Triangle C—spans four generations of cowboys. They work hard to help guests feel right at home on the range, hosting campfire cookouts and serving home-cooked game hens and organic produce in the Wind River Dining Room. For a change of pace, visit the onsite Sagebrush Spa, where massage therapists incorporate locally grown herbs into relaxing treatments.
The guest rooms at the ranch feature natural log-frame beds, cowhide chairs, and woodsy artwork that lend to a rustic, Old West feel. In some rooms, you can warm up next to a stovepipe fireplace.
Dubois, Wyoming: Tiny Cowboy Town Between Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks
The tiny town of Dubois is set in northwest Wyoming, near both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Many people visit Yellowstone for a glimpse of Old Faithful, the famous geyser that spews boiling water into the air about every 90 minutes. But Grand Teton, which is about a half-hour drive outside Dubois, is just as worthy of a visit. The Grand Teton Mountains have no foothills—they sharply rise some 7,000 feet in the air, good for postcard-ready views.
Downtown Dubois has some mountain views of its own; it's skirted by both the Wind River and Absaroka Ranges. Dubois’s Main Street calls to mind an Old West town with its old log buildings and western-themed boutiques. This area is also home to one of the largest herds of bighorn sheep in the nation, which you can learn about at the National Bighorn Sheep Center.
